On highways at 100 km/h I usually put it ON
But on secondary roads at 80 or 90 km/h, I turn it OFF
The transmission downshift more often and the rpm's go up a lot when using the cruise.

I run with mine on as well as use the tow/haul unless I am in town or traffic.

If you turn your OD off while towing, your trans will work harder and your trans oil pressure will drop, which in turn will not lubricate and cool your transmission as much as if you had it in drive/towing gear.
You will be running the risk of very costly repairs just for a few $$ of savings in fuel. Not worth it IMHO.

I push my tow/haul button but honestly have no idea what it does/doesn't do.

Hey leave it in overdrive but if you are towing push the tow/haul button. It simply knocks it down a gear for lack of a better explanation. Otherwise you are putting a heavy load on the tranny. That button is almost like another gear.

Always run with my tow haul button on. Raises shift points and locks out overdrive. I can achieve full lockup in fifth gear unless I have a headwind. 2010 Ram Hemi (393 hp, 408 ft/lbs). 60 mph at about 1800 RPM.

I leave my Overdrive On. RPMs, 1700 at 65mph. I do use my cruise control out on the open road where there is no traffic that is in my way or I am in their way. I have a beefed up transmission and run a Chip that has a tow setting.

Ford F-150 EcoBoost; Tow/haul on and cruise on if on interstate, off if in town/back roads. 12 mpg.

Yes the button "locks out" OD AKA the highest gear. But it also changes the shift pattern in the trans. The computer will let the RPMs go higher between shifts, let's the pressure down between shifts ( so gears don't slam) raises pressure while in gear for more lubrication and cooling, and a few other technical items.

I select cruise on the freeway and tow haul, but the allison does not have a OD, if I am in town (stop and go) I select it off (depends on traffic) because of the higher shift points, with the triple disk converter compared to the single stock I can see a measurable difference in trans temps, and with the lock up box I can lock the converter at any speed to keep the slippage build up of heat to a minimum.

For a F-250 7.3 2400rpm @ 60mph ,rpms is way to high and asking for trouble. You should go to a Ford Truck Forum and get into the thread are of your truck year and talk to them about what you have. It may be fine for you, (I don't know), but for me it would not be good.

48er. As long as you keep it in D you will be fine. OD is only supposed to be used when driving any vehicle by itself hauling passengers. As soon as a Trailer is hooked up or a lot of added extra weight is placed in the vehicle and you plan on driving highway speeds 50 plus mph, tow/haul should be pushed, or shifter placed in drive.

Ram 3500 dually, I use cruise control, and depending on where I am (i.e. hilly or flat) I choose to use the tow/haul mode. I can turn off t/h then get to speed - usually 60 mph - get the torque converter to lock then select t/h. It stays in O/D until it needs to shift, hill or what ever, then it does what it needs to do. I monitor the trans temp/engine temp/oil temp on one screen and can make adjustments as necessary. With my 2500, I would do the same. On my 1500, Hemi I had to add a trans cooler as the stock one was just not enough. using t/h with the 1500, I would be better of unless really flat land. I would sometimes lock out 6th and let the rpms go up a bit. It kept the trans cooler as it was pumping the fluid faster with more pressure and not staying in the trans for so long so as to pick up any extra heat. Seemed counter-intuitive to me, but the numbers on EVIC were telling me it worked.

I use cruise all the time. OD on for flat land, but slow enough to not shift into 5th. OD off in hilly land keeping it in 3rd.

I put my vehicle in Tow/Haul and if I'm on flat roads I also put the cruise control on.

Also, Tow/Haul in my 2011 F150 5.0L does NOT lock out OD in my vehicle.

Thread title says "cruise control", but text talks about "overdrive". I'll state both:
Cruise Control: I only use it if the road is dead flat, and slight uphills are not enough to unlock the torque convertor. If the convertor is unlocking, that equals less fuel economy, and more heat, so I'd simply use a steady foot. I can also watch my Scangage (% engine load)...once it gets to 99%, it's about to unlock the convertor and/or downshift. Not desired.

Overdrive: I leave it in overdrive, unless I'm in some serious hills, and the trans can't hold a specific gear. Biggest problem is that my 6-speed trans can't hold 5th. OD lockout button locks out both 5th and 6th, and 4th has the rpm too high for me on the expressway. So I'll let the trans do what it wants. Since I don't use cruise control in hilly areas, I can often avoid trans hunting. I also watch trans temp on the Scangage.

I tow a Hyper Lite XLR 27HFS toy hauler with my '08 5.7L Tundra. The cruise control will not work. The poor design doesn't modulate the throttle smoothly enough and will abruptly down shift to fourth and then back to 5th..... and so on, even on flat roads. If a can get a slight tailwind, or a slight draft, the CC will work better. I tow in a manual 5th with tow/haul button on. I have a well setup Equializer WDH, tow about 65-67, and get 8.1mpg. I'm guessing I'm towing less than 7500lbs.
