3 years ago, I wanted a long bed so I went with a early 07 3500 Dully with the 5.9, automatic trans and 4x4, just turned 60k, still a baby motor as far as mileage goes. Good used 2500 with a long bed, 4x4 and low mileage are hard (not impossible) to find.
Yeah my '03 Hemi had that issue. They referred to it as the "head unit".That went out maybe 5-6 years.Kept it for 7 and had no other real issues with it.

Had an 06 2500 laramie short bed quad cab
Loves that truck bit we bought a 365 saq and that camper is a little heavy for a 3/4 ton I thought
That's how we ended up with a 6.7
I have owned 8 diesel pickups and this 6.7 is by far the strongest I have owned

I traded my 5.9 Cummins for a 6.7 Cummins. Worst thing I ever did.............until I deleted the DPF and EGR! My mileage increase was right at 5 mpg. I also have the Smarty Jr tuner. You will have to have the tuner if you do the deletes or you will throw codes. The exhaust brake is awesome for pulling the trailer.

My '11 Silverado 2500 Duramax has been bulletproof. No warranty issues, no issues of any kind - 27,000 miles so far. Fuel economy is terrific - high of 23mpg. 400 hp, 800 ft lbs torque, exhaust brake, Sat Nav and Onstar all excellent. Allison transmission is world renown as the best. DEF makes the truck all that more liveable. No stink and no soot. Don 't know why people complain about it - bought 2.5 gallon jug on my way home tonite for $9.99.

If you want a great truck, consider a Chevy.

Even a Ford can make it 30,000 miles with no problems.

You guys that did the EGR and DPF delete.........Hope your warranty is up. If not, you better not breakdown as now your warranty is void. Rumor has it the dealers are inspecting for this and enforcing it. I got an ugly feeling the truck computers have enough memory in them to keep EFI tuner changes in permanant records.

My truck is not out of warranty
There is 200 less parts on a cummins then the ford or chevy
I will take my chances with the warranty issue to get the fuel economy and the horsepower
When you get in the mountains the cummins is hard to stay up with
The inline engine with the long stroke makes alot of torque
