I will be looking at getting a new truck probably with in the next 6 months. I would really like to look into a used dodge with cummins 6.7 but am unsure because I have heard so many negative issues with the dpf and egr. I don't really care for a ford or Chevy. If not a dodge then I will get a tundra. I just don't want the problems. I would be looking at a 2010 or newer as long as I can afford it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I bought a used 2008 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 Cummins last year and do far so good. Have only done routine maintenance such as oil changes and fuel filter, changed batteries. Have put 17,000 miles towing various fivers with the current unit the Columbus 320RS. Pulls and handles well with no strain. We were happy with it.

Hi there
I have a 2007 cummins 6.7
When i bought it the fuel mileage was awful
After a dpf and egr delete it gets 19 mpg and 14 pulling a saq365
I would strongly recomend it

We brought a new (2012) Ram 2500 3/4 ton with the Cummins 6.7 L diesel engine.

It doesn't use DEF and doesn't have glow plugs to mess with. I believe the Ram 3500 does require DEF.

I don't know anything regarding egr. We have pulled our Silverback FW about 10.000 miles with it and the only problem we had was a broken under hood light.

We are very pleased with it and like that Ram/Cummins has toned down the diesel sound of it also.

Since some older model guys chimed in I may as well too.I bought my '08 used-26k-still had the warranty left on it.BUT as soon as that was history so was the DPF and EGR.Nothing worse than making an engine eat its own wasteIn conjunction with that you have to go with a computer programmer with the end result being the power and torque you should of had to begin withAnyway you are looking at '10 and up.They still use the DPF and EGR but as time went on I believe Dodge/Cummins worked more of the bugs out of it.I want to say late '07-early '08 was the transition from the 5.9 to the 6.7 the beta model if you will.I have had to replace the water pump at 45kbut it was still under the powertrain warranty.I've never hand calculated, but overhead console says (usually-when I keep my foot out of it)20-21 Hwy. 12-13 towing my Crusader 320.Engine is not an issue with this truck.Keep an eye on things like the dreaded Mopar transmission, and front end components like balljoints and the track bar.My programmer comes with three settings.Mild Wild and Extreme.Have never set it on anything other than Mild. That seems good enough for me.Hope this helps.

I have owned 4 cummins 5.9
A couple commonrails and a 2nd generation
But once you get rid of the garbage on the 6.7 it is extremely strong
I was concerned and scared to purchase one but glad now that i did
The switch from the 5.9 to the 6.7 was in late 2007

I run a 6 speed manual and a kevlar and ceramic clutch kit
After i deleted the emissions the stock unit did not last very long
These motors have a tremendous amount of torque

RattVader is right on for what I was told to watch for in the Dodge. The only other thing I would add is the heat and air system have been known to have some problems. Especially the blend door, I don't know if they got that fixed in later models. My fan motor went out about a year ago.

3 years ago, I wanted a long bed so I went with a early 07 3500 Dully with the 5.9, automatic trans and 4x4, just turned 60k, still a baby motor as far as mileage goes. Good used 2500 with a long bed, 4x4 and low mileage are hard (not impossible) to find.

Yeah my '03 Hemi had that issue. They referred to it as the "head unit".That went out maybe 5-6 years.Kept it for 7 and had no other real issues with it.

Had an 06 2500 laramie short bed quad cab
Loves that truck bit we bought a 365 saq and that camper is a little heavy for a 3/4 ton I thought
That's how we ended up with a 6.7
I have owned 8 diesel pickups and this 6.7 is by far the strongest I have owned

I traded my 5.9 Cummins for a 6.7 Cummins. Worst thing I ever did.............until I deleted the DPF and EGR! My mileage increase was right at 5 mpg. I also have the Smarty Jr tuner. You will have to have the tuner if you do the deletes or you will throw codes. The exhaust brake is awesome for pulling the trailer.

My '11 Silverado 2500 Duramax has been bulletproof. No warranty issues, no issues of any kind - 27,000 miles so far. Fuel economy is terrific - high of 23mpg. 400 hp, 800 ft lbs torque, exhaust brake, Sat Nav and Onstar all excellent. Allison transmission is world renown as the best. DEF makes the truck all that more liveable. No stink and no soot. Don 't know why people complain about it - bought 2.5 gallon jug on my way home tonite for $9.99.

If you want a great truck, consider a Chevy.

Even a Ford can make it 30,000 miles with no problems.

You guys that did the EGR and DPF delete.........Hope your warranty is up. If not, you better not breakdown as now your warranty is void. Rumor has it the dealers are inspecting for this and enforcing it. I got an ugly feeling the truck computers have enough memory in them to keep EFI tuner changes in permanant records.

My truck is not out of warranty
There is 200 less parts on a cummins then the ford or chevy
I will take my chances with the warranty issue to get the fuel economy and the horsepower
When you get in the mountains the cummins is hard to stay up with
The inline engine with the long stroke makes alot of torque
