Dodge Ram 1500 Airbags

Does anyone run airbags in the rear of their half ton ram? Mine is a 2013 1500. With the trailer on, she doesn't sag too terribly with the bars on, but there is definitely some sag on the rear. Summit Racing has a rear bag kit for $102, and I'm curious to see if it is worth it.

They sell an awful lot of Dodge kits . . . . people must need them and like them.

I have airbags on my 2013 ram 1500, they were defiantly needed in my case. I pull a rockwood ultra light 5th wheel which is 30 feet. I have had a few different trailers in the past and have always had airbags installed. If I can remember, the current airbags I have cost around $800.

Had Firestone air bags on my 2005 Dodge 1500 made huge difference easy to install loaded was around 7500lbs

I put the airlift 1000's in mine just to level it out.

I think I am going to get them to keep it level while in tow. it doesn't sag tooooooo bad, but enough that I can notice it.

Air bags are wonderful. When I ordered my 2015 Ram Laramie, I ordered the factory 4 corner automatic leveling air suspension and it's the best option on a very nice truck. Holds my 7,600 lb Wildcat nice and level, even before I attach the bars to the WDH!

Looks is one thing. I installed ours to improve the ride quality. DW has vertigo and is very sensitive to sways and bouncing, having the bags aired up, she can ride comfortably.

I have them in my 2011 and I pull a Rockwood 8321ss. I installed Firestones..for the brand bashers, my buddy just put them in his 2016 F150 too pulling a similar trailer load an he loves them too!

I have a Dodge 3500 Laramie and I pull a 42ft 5th wheel. Not much sagging but makes for a smoother ride with air bags.

I put the 1000 on and they failed fairly quickly. I decided to get a set from TLC Suspensions and they have made a huge difference. I have also since replaced my shocks with Bilsteins. The new shocks ride better than anything I have ever had. The two of them together makes for a great ride.

With my setup (see sig) I'm using Monroe Load-Adjusting rear shock absorbers (shock with coil spring integrated). They are reported to add 1000lbs of resistance. They ride stock unloaded.

When I drop the 870 lbs of tongue weight without WD hooked up, my truck sits with a very slight forward rake. Front wheelwell dimension goes from 36" unloaded to 36 7/8". Rear drops about 3 inches.

When I engage my WD front goes back to unloaded 36" dimension, rear goes to 1" below unloaded.

Absolutely no porpoising and a great ride.

If I ran airbags I would have to keep a spare set with me, don't trust that system.

Tuftruck also makes a range of HD springs for the Ram that have had good reviews.

At $89 shipped and super easy installation I went with the shocks. One less thing to worry about. Your mileage may vary.

Put them on! it will be a night and day change for the better!
I'm running load lifter 5000. With all the Hemi horsepower and a smoother ride you will ENJOY towing your trailer. You might have to re-adjust your hitch (down). I ran the airline up to my center console and use a $9 Harbor freight 12v compressor to inflate to 65psi. Once parked, I de-flate to resume the smooth Hemi ride. Then before hitting the road, inflate them back up.

I didn't want to do anything that would permanently alter the truck. (shocks, springs, etc.) I only to the Grey Wolfe 20-25 days a year. I use the truck like a race car the rest of the time and didn't want to change the handling. I pump them up when I tow and de-flate to 10psi when I'm not and the truck rides factory fresh

Check the roadmaster spring assist.

I had Firestone air bags (inside the coil spring) and had two problems with them..first you must air up to max pressure BEFORE you add load to the truck, then air down to your desired ride height. Second I could not stop air leakage at the top of the bags. I replaced the Firestones with a set from Timber Grove that are much more substantial and have commercial air brake type fittings and tubing. More money, but IMO, much more quality and capacity. Wish I bought these first.

Installed the Airlift 1000 and am impressed with the improvement in stability. Very simple install (less than one hour). I also put the wireless compressor system. Lifetime warranty and not very costly.

Both Equal-I-Zer and Blue Ox told me to set the pressure to 35psi before installing their WD hitches.
