Dodge Ram axle ratio

I tow a 27 ft Flagstaff with a Dodge Ram V6 that has a 3.55 rear axle option, or so I thought. It turns out that even though I paid for a 3.55, I got a 3.21. Has anyone had this happen? I am waiting for the deale and Dodge to act after my complaint.

Assuming the V6 is a gas engine, with 3.21 gears, it seems to me that you better not tow that much trailer in any mountains. The level of torque you have with the V6 coupled with the 3.21 rear tells me that you are rather limited in what you tow!

#.21 with V6

The 3.6 with 3.55 has a max tow over 7000. The 3.21 has a max of 4200. Dodge will eat this truck or replace it with 3.55 gears.

2014 differential ratio

2014 Big Horn with the 3.55 as an option, but not installed. I have been all over the Dodge Ram forums and see most are talking 2013. I have yet to find anyone with a 2014 having the same issue.

Dodge used to post a small sticker under the hood with options, like rear ratio and engine size for that particular vehicle.

3.21 vs 3.55

I have had the truck to the dealer and am waiting for a response from Dodge. The Option list shows 3.55, but the actual tag on the differentials (4X4) show 3.21. It is not a standard equipment issue, but an option not installed. I haven't found anyone who has gone completely through the process yet.

My build sheet sez 3.55 on my 13 Ram Laramie 5.7 and now I am wondering because I read more and more about this.Guess I will have to climb under the truck today and have a good look at the axle tag.

Thumbs up Dodge resolution on axle ratio

Dodge is buying my 2014 truck with an MSRP to MSRP swap for a 2015 Hemi Big Horn. The Hemi has 3.21 gears, but can tow 8000 lbs. They will pay all costs and no mileage deduction. I only pay the difference between a 2014 V6 and a 2015 Hemi V8, about $2800. One thing that is IMPORTANT! Call Dodge yourself and keep the dealer out of it. Dodge gave me about a $1200 break from what the dealer would do. They also said I could have this deal at any dealer, just let them know.

Anyone having an axle ratio problem should deal directly with Ram. Dealers will try to get mileage charges and depreciation. Ram has to be called every other day as they are slow at everything, but keep at it. After the deal was done I had to sign a non-disclosure statement so Ram looks blameless. Fight for an MSRP to MSRP swap with new accessories rather that moving them.

I only know that the 2013 and 2014 models were the ones having the problem. Mine had a window sticker that said the 3.55 was an option I paid for,but wasn't the fact.

Sounds like they are taking care of you. There was a guy on cumminsforum that ordered a 4x4 dually and when it was delivered it had the correct gear in one diff and a different ratio in the other.

This is a known issue on late '13 early '14 MY Rams. I think there was a shortage of 3.55 at the end of the '13 production, so Ram decided to put 3.21 in its place. With the 8 speed transmission, the 3.55 gear ratio has been pretty much eliminated in most 1500 applications from '14 on.

Glad Ram took care of it for you.
