Does anyone use a leased vehicle to tow their camper

I'm contemplating a new tow vehicle and I'm getting lease deals from my local dealer. Does anyone use a leased truck to tow their camper? Is towing allowed in a lease? I've never leased before.

My previous tow vehicle was a leased 2007 Ram 1500. As long as your planned leased vehicle has a factory installed tow package, I don't think there will be any problem.

Have to agree. I lease and have a factory tow package. Should not have a problem as long as you stay within your limits.

I wasn't sure if they would call it excessive wear.

Newer trucks will show how many miles trailer was attached....in the end you are responsible for the wear above and beyond normal...so you may have to buy tires/brakes/ etc.....

They dont specifY No towing unless its for business or commercial use...

In the end you gotta give it back in decent shape/and within the miles you were allowed....

I mean have you ever seen ANY used vehicle that specifically said from a dealer "never towed with"?...

The mileage could get ya if you drive a lot tho....

no offense to the members comments here, but have you thought of asking the dealers you are looking at leasing from instead of for our opinions? I do agree with the comments so far though. it has to be turned back in in reasonably good shape with normal wear and tear and no excessive miles. I would be more worried about what they consider "normal" wear and tear. the excessive miles is where they are really going to stick it to you. read the FINE print. the REALLY fine print. remember, they are car dealers, not your best friend looking out for you. they want to make money.

I'm not worried about the mileage, just the extra wear and tear and getting caught in the end to ante up. Your right I should ask the dealer but you know how those conversations go....it's impossible to leave.

In the newer trucks is there really a way for the dealer to tell how much the truck been towing?

I have considered leasing a truck or SUV myself. I tried to even rent one and the car rental places don't allow for trailer towing unless you rent a box truck. I have seen car rentals that rent out pick up trucks with tow hitches.

I am retired from a large captive auto finance company, and I personally managed one of largest lease portfolios in the U.S.

Manufacturers' retail leases do not prohibit recreational vehicle trailer towing. With the current price of tow vehicles, few buyers really have the capacity to pay for $55K-60K trucks in 48 or 60 monthly payments. Leasing will be even more prevalent 10 years from now.

The trick is staying within your allotted miles, even if it takes "purchasing" additional mileage on front end. Those getting into 3 year leases often find themselves having to replace tires, which is an expensive proposition.

The new trucks have a fifth wheel tow package with pucks in the bed. That would be the only way I'd want to go. The old style rails scratch and dent beds, and you could be hit for repairs at lease termination.

The trick is to treat the vehicle just like it's yours--and maintain it to perfection. A diesel pickup with normal miles is a piece of gold on the used truck retail market, and it's been built to work with--not to look at.

Have at it in the leasing world--if the deal's right.

Thanks Bamaman, I've never leased any suggestions to get a good deal. I'm not worried about the mileage as I'm thinking in getting a separate daily driver vehicle.

I know I'm going to get lambasted for this and there will be a lot "rationalizations" but:

Very few of us really NEED a $55K-60K truck.

We WANT a $55K-60K truck and we're dumb enough to buy one.

We buy stuff we don't need, with money we don't have, to impress people we don't know.

Sorry, but that's my opinion.

I have had three leases now. I have towed one TT and two 5ver’s. I have the dealer , throw in a bed liner in the deal for free. I remove the liner thru out the lease. At the end of the lease, I re-install the bed liner. I have had no problems at all with the turn in ( sales man suggested this to me ).

As an insider, I came up on some factory rebates and deals on some leases that made them very attractive. I spotted real deals over the years on a big SUV and a full size luxury car.

The lease end value is based on the window sticker plus any freebie packages. The higher the Lease End Value, the lower the monthly payment.

One reason leasing's better for the dealer and salesman is that his retail leases are usually based on MSRP. He's hitting a "home run" on every lease deal--big profits.

But if you offer a lesser monthly payment, he can take it. I suggest working your deal on a purchase--squeezing the dealer for the lowest price. Or, paying the price advertised in the newspaper. Tell them to plug that number in as the Acquisition Price on a lease and figure up a payment for you on a lease.

Now that I'm retired, I've had to stage out my personal purchases--like cars, boats, RV's and I'm keeping vehicles longer. But I'm also driving vehicles that are very low depreciating and trouble free like a Lexus and Honda Civic. My tow vehicle is a 12 year old, low mile diesel 3/4 ton (117K miles). I did buy a new Explorer to haul grandkids around in--$6K cheaper than the Highlander and Pathfinder.

If I get into another lease, it's going to be a Lexus. My sister owns a Lexus dealership, and I buy'em for dead cost--$4-5K less than the public buys it for. I think that a lease would be incredibly cheap on one of those fine cars in my case.
But there again, I'm perfectly happy driving a red IS250 that's paid for.
