Don`t dyno a echoboost

buddy at work bought a 2014 echo boost top of the line fx4 or something. took it to our buddy at diablo sport (the owner) and he wanted to see the HP/TQ #`s no tuning all factory. the only thing that was remove is the speed limiter (cant get enough speed to work the dyno with the factory limiter) not sure what #`s he saw but the crank snapped. he is hoping the dealer will take care of this. sucks to be him...

Hoping indeed. Sounds like he is outta luck. Some people just can't seem to be happy with things as they are.

JevanB stated the truck was stock...just running it on the dyno for real world HP/Torque ratings to compare to Ford's advertised #'s...it's ashame ANY stock truck should break under this simple test

I hope things work out OK for your friend. I think if the dealer checks the Event Data Recorder your friend will be SOL.

"the only thing that was remove is the speed limiter (cant get enough speed to work the dyno with the factory limiter)"

There must be a reason for speed limiter...........

Why would he need to remove the limiter, the dyno should be able to give readings though the whole range at least the one I use to operate for GM did each gear and at all recordable RPM's.

The reason its in place is so you don't go over 100mph at any whim/ drunken state you want.

As long as the "rev" limiter wasnt raised/ removed the speed limiter shouldn't affect anything but a higher speed.

Correct?

So the speed is limited to 100mph removing it to go 120 should have no Ill affect as long as the engine isn't above max rpm .

Right?

the engine needs RPM to spool turbos and with rpm comes MPH , kind of hard to get them to light without it. I see over 100 trying to get mine to light the top charger. it would be worse without the VGT on the bottom.

true, I guess they needed the MPH, funny thing he let them have the truck while he was on travel, but I bet daddy will pay for it if the factory will not. his last project is a Z06 with 675hp

Why would you want to dyno your truck???????

Sounds like a mixture of operator error and downright failure to grasp common sense.

Rule number one: DO NOT DISCONNECT THE SAFETY EQUIPMENT

The speedlimiter is there for many more reasons other than limiting speed.

Manufacturer should not repair or replace. Dyno operator is at fault--period!

Why should the dealer be on the hook because the owner is an i__t?

it's a damned truck for heavens sake. A case of more money than brains if you ask me.

He altered the truck and broke it. No sympathy here.

Also sounds like the Dyno needs to have higher resistance at a lower RPM.

U guys, the limiter is because of the tires and wheels, mostly tires.
- think about it, how many lawsuits would there be these days if you had a vehicle that was allowed to go to 150 mph, but tires were rated at 110?

That's it, no speculation. Unless you have evidence otherwise, this is the reason ive seen on some trucks- even some spedos will have a different mph range than other "performace minded" vehicles (ie. Vortex max trucks had spedos that went to 120, while non trucks were 100mph, and of course the max trucks had speed rated tires)

+1 I had a new Yukon in 2002 and it topped out at 99 mph. I took it in and that is the stated reason from GM. Tire speed rating.

Sounds FUBAR to me. Turbo boost is created by engine RPM and torque loading. I used to Dyno-Tune vehicles back in the 80's at a shop I worked at. A Chevy 454 truck was a bellowing beast at 60 mph with the Dyno setting at near max. All thid while dialing in the distributor and watching for max HP.

There should have been no need to remove the speed limiter as max HP and torque readings are created at around 3200rpm. But some of the newer vehicles may be looking at wheel speed ABS sensors and derating when no wheel speed is sensed on the front versus the rear.As for breaking a crankshaft, that is most likely going to happen sooner or later. Unless a heckuva shock load was created by jacking with the Dyno load control. I have only seen two broken cranks in my 35 year carreer. Real rare thing unless in a race car.
