Double towing with a HDT and 5er?
Looking for help & thoughts on towing a car behind my 39' CC 5er and 2011 Ram 3500 CC 4X4 DRW? I've been told that the Lippert frame isn't strong enough to do that? Has anyone here done what I'm suggesting? Could the frame be modified to strengthen it enough? Appreciate your thoughts!

What car?
Who much does it weigh and what is the weight of the trailer/truck combo?

Can the frame of the 5er handle the stress?

Perhaps, but I doubt it.
The big question is weight of the toad to be.
I have seen a Jeep JK behind a Montana and several side by sides, boats and other toys behind others.
Biggest deal is it legal where you are and where you are going,

I personally tend to stretch the line beyond others comfort levels when I feel that it can be done safely. With what you are asking about requires a lot of supplemental questions.
Whats your towing experience?
Where are you planning to tow this?
Full details of your camper? Year/make/model
Are you planning to load the escape on a trailer or tow it on the ground?
What do you foresee you're over all length at?

My 5er came with a factory installed hitch rated @300/3000 get a lighter car and I would say yes. But that thing would be long and over 65ft.

Call Lippert for their input ( Lippert Components, Inc). Pretty sure they will advise against it. But, you will at least have their input as another decision point. And no doubt they can give you some pretty good detail on the abilities of the frame.

Of course they are going to advise against it! Speed limit is 75 on the interstate and we all normally go over that! How often do we all abide by the seat belt laws?
That would be another question to my list... If you still have warranty on the frame are you willing to void it?
Attached are a couple of my pictures that freak people out... The first one is 100% legal and the second one depends on which state I am in due to the length!
Not once have I felt unsafe pulling either one of these! You need to be aware of what your rig is capable and what you as the driver are capable of before going through with this...

I hope I am misunderstanding that statement. If not, that freaks me out more than a triple tow.
If you are a first responder, you gotta know that the belts really do reduce risk of injury and death, right?

It was a question... Do we all abide by it? No... I sure try to... and it also depends on the scenario whether I wear a belt! It is off topic and I apologize but I feel wearing a belt for my day to day driving in town to work, less than 2 miles to work and not over 25mph I feel more safe being un restrained and When I hit the highway or if I have a trailer in tow you better believe that me and my occupants are buckled in! Being a first responder/emt/firefighter I have seen it first hand this is what I feel safe with!

I don't know how far afield you plan to travel, but, as far as I know, most states on the east coast don't allow it. IIRC, Maryland does and I know for a fact PA does not.

This is the ONLY one I've seen that I would trust, except for the REALLY expensive fivers that were custom built for towing.
He spent four years getting it right and had an engineer design the frame reinforcements, which were extensive. It's not a car, but its a heavy double-decker trailer with quads, etc.

x'2 not many states allow it, You can beef up any frame, but then you own it. Lets say that something happened to your frame even if you could prove that it was LCI production problem. You be out and on your own.

this came on my 2012 right from the factory, the 2013`s do not have this option.
Us MI folks are allowed to tow double, I might take my quads up north this summer behind it

Actually, Maryland does all to triple tow... You are correct that PA does not...
I would say there are more states that do allow it than don't even... there are a handful of them that require the front trailer to be a fifth wheel.

I have done it for many years in the past with our old trailer. I believe it's perfectly safe if you are mindful of total weight and total length. We had a 27 ft. fifth and towed a 17 ft. lund boat with surge brakes. Different jurisdictions have different rules, here in Manitoba it can only be done behind a fifth and total length can not exceed 75 ft. Of course you need to know that the trailer frame is capable of the additional stresses. It seems that if you live in flat country it's ok, mountain or hilly terrain definitely not! Also you have to feel comfortable doing it and it might require different license requirements. To each his own. Be safe and happy RV'ing.

It is referred to as many different things actually... Either is correct as long as we all know what each other are referring too!
