So after numerous emails to PennDoT I find I now have a Class B Non-Commercial drivers license.

All that was required was to fill out a form, pay 5 bucks and take the CDL Class B multiple choice test.

I did that "cold" and scored 85% (passed). Pretty easy test (which is scary if you think about it).

They printed out my yellow license endorsement on the spot.

Total cost was 5 bucks and about 15 minutes of testing time.

(Not counting the TWO HOURS of wait time and the 30 minutes convincing them that there really WAS something called a "Non-Commercial Class B".

Congratulations, we do seem to have the most inefficient driver license system especially when it comes time to testing and administration!

Getting ready for our motorhome upgrade this year.

The Berkshire we are looking at has a GVWR of 31,000 pounds and a tow rating of 10,000 for a GCWR of 41,000

Initially, I thought I would need a Non-Commercial Class A, but as long as the "trailer" weighs less than 10,001 pounds, a B is all that is needed.

I often wondered about where the cut off was. 10,000lbs was the cut off for trailers on the lanscaper side for them needing cdl so I guess there is some consistency.

I also always wondered about whether a b or a was required with the motor homes. Always figured only a b would be used, not and a possibility.

The only difference is the trailer rating.
If heavier than 10,000 you need an A.

Wonder how different the test would be, since it's still a "non-commercial".

I don't know since I did not take it; but the test I took WAS the CDL Class B test. There was no "Non-Commercial" Class B test.

It is even possible the test itself was not required; just the 5 bucks.

Man, talk about incompetent at the DOT license center.
