In Kansas you have to register you truck for the GVWR of the truck and cargo trailer combined and the county DMV tried force me into 24,000 lbs rating on my truck. The way they caught it was I was register my New F350 and my new 5th wheel at the same time. I protested and found it's true for cargo type trailer but RVs that have a plumb in toilet with holding tank are exempt. The plates on our RV cost so much per 1,000 lbs of weight and I can run a 12,000 plate while towing my 5er but are limited to the size/weight cargo trailer I can tow.
Told several others about DMV mistake and they went down there to change registration and get a refund. They were allowed to change registration but was told it wasn't their responsibility to know and understand the law and inform them (the DMV) how they want to register the truck so no refunds.
