Duramax owners
Have any of you heard or are using this product? I have an '06 LBZ and my mileage is 12-14 without towing. Towing my 5er I get 8-10. If anyone has heard of this or currently has it installed please share pros and cons, I am seriously thinking of getting the tuner.

You might also want to look at Diesel Place : Chevrolet and GMC Diesel Truck Forums - Duramax Diesel Discussion Forums where there are a lot of tuning and towing fanatics. There are a number of other highly rated tuners on the market.
As you have probably read from the site you referenced, the factory tune is optimized to meet emissions standards, not to provide best mileage. However, beware of installing a higher HP tune... much more than about 40HP and you can smoke your transmission.
If you're getting only 12-14 without towing it sounds like something is already wrong. I have an '05 LLY with the 5-speed and 12 is about what I get towing a 24' TT (or in the dead of a Canadian winter when everything is stiff and my tranny takes a long time to lock up). I can get around 20 in non-towing highway driving when it stays relatively flat. My buddy has an '06 LBZ with the 6-speed and he gets about 13 towing a pretty big TT.

You have the "holy grail" of Duramax motors so you should treat it to a tune from a reputable EFI Live tuner. Check for info in the link that DaveSchwartz posted and you can read up on it. I had an 04 LLY with a DSP-5 switch (5 different tunes available with the turn of a knob) and absolutely loved it.

I did EFI Live by Idaho Rob with ATP and could not be happier. Truck runs so much better and the best I have seen on the highway is 19.5 but I have not been on any long trips. I get anywhere from 11.5 to 12.3 pulling the camper.

That's who did my tuning and I was amazed by it. I wish they could modify the Ford's with EFI Live, I'd have it in a heartbeat on my 450 if I could.
You know, now that I think about it I still have my AutoCal from ATP, I need to look into selling that thing.

Now that my 08 is out of warranty, maybe I should look into this.

Skip on these guys (not gonna see 4-7mpg increase as they claim) and research/invest in EFI Live tuning...you and your truck will be happy!
Proper, professional tuning helps these Diesel engines run so smooth and efficient over stock setups...don't be scared away by the anti-tune folks either, as with anything, be smart with your tuning and how you use it and you will be trouble free
Most of us that have the EFI Live tuning are from programmers who have decades of hands on experience in diesel racing/sled pulling to know how to get what you want out of your truck without sacrificing longevity and reliability.

Save your money, I have used every off the shelf tuner and nothing compares to EFI live , I get my custom tunes from ATP trucks, I run a modified stock to 300hp tune and it is clean . But running a tune not from factory is hard on parts and gets addictive and can be expensive... there are factory calibrations that can be tweaked with EFI and the engine will like it, but to use the full potational accompanying mods need to be installed, as for your crappy mileage clean your MAF

Your autocal is married to your ECM , nobody can use it. And only the V2 that loaded the tunes can load other tunes. When I went from the autocal to the V2 I asked Rob if he wanted it back for a discount, he said their is no market for a used autocal and if somebody wants to clear codes or data log that is all it is good for

You can purchase the extra VIN licenses for $125, and each AutoCal can hold up to 8 VINs. And as far as it being locked to Rob's V2, I don't think that is a bad thing

Yes I know, but Rob will still charge for the tunes for the specific ECM/VIN, I now make my own but use his knowledge on past tunes I have bought, I don't have to make many changes and I do no tune anyone's ECM since my truck is the test bed and would not want to screw their ride up, since I am still learning....

It used to be camshafts, milling heads, and lapping valves, now it's punching in keys on a keyboard. Cracks me up!
It's so foreign to me.
Where did you guys find out all about tuning? I'd love to know what you all think are the best sources. It's enjoyable reading for me. Full-size trucks are too big for Korea, so I'll just enjoy everyone else's oil-burning adventures.

I had atp. On my old lbz and and had a lot issues.Rob had problems tuning my truck.Your absolute best way is to find a good efi. Tuner that can sit in your truck and tune it
My 08 now has efi.lift pump.5" straight pipe exhaust egregious delete.
Get about 14 mpg. Towing and 19 around town.
More hp can and will hurt your trans if abusing the power .
Efi.is the only way to go in my opinion.

Thanks,
I'm assuming you have to have a device, such as a laptop, to download the tunes from the provider and some way to plug into your truck. Is there a cable you have purchase to do this. Unless I want to drive a couple of hundred miles, I'm a DIY with a long learning curve on this.
