SOP now. Used to be the later model (after 1999 Super Duty Diesel) had to have the cab pulled but with thew short hood and all the crap under the cowl, they all get pulled. The price you pay for a short hood and recessed engine....

Couple body mount bolts, rad hoses, and odd stuff and off it comes.

Mileage & timing chain

Wow - that's pretty low mileage for a chain replacement. An awesome process to do the job!

Glad I got my extended warranty from Ford, good till 125K miles. Sitting at 72K so figure if I need a new chain around 110K miles I'm good. Still, that is quite the repair job...thanks for sharing the experience.

There was a thing about this a while back, something about the timing chain making a horrible racket. I took my 2011 with about 70,000 km on it. It wasn't really making much noise , but they changed it anyway. The advisor said they were slow so they didn't mind the work. I got a new chain out of it, plus they flushed the radiator. They did take the cab off though. They had it for two days. Under warranty so no charge.

EcoBoost

I just changed mine, 3.5L 2011, the chain is nearly 6 feet long and mine streached by 2 inches, chain tensioners were at the limit.

Did all the work my self, under the hood, It took me a couple of days but runs great now, even though the performance never suffered, just the rattle when starting.

It had 77,000 miles on it. Should last a long time, changed everything, all tensioners, the hydrolic tension control and all other items related to the timing chain.

~$250.00 in parts and rental on specialized tools.

Ken

The new engines are designed for ease of assembly (cheap and quick) with little thought about fixing them.

I'll stick with a good old style pushrod motor.

2015 on up F150's the engine is easier to work on. 2017 they completely redid the 3.5 ecoboost. The only thing that is the same is the actual 3.5 designation. The whole inside is brand new including new and lighter turbo's. The early Eco's, the timing chain was the weak link. I had a 2013 that was just starting to make a ticking noise at idle which is a clue the chain has stretched according to one of the mechanics I spoke with at the dealer. My new one is quiet as a mouse.

5w40 weight oil should help your chain last longer. I've owned 2 Ecoboost F150's and ran 5w40 in both of them.

Good luck getting them to warranty a wear item.

Where do you plan on buying one of those? Pretty sure there are no trucks anymore that come with a push rod engine.

My 2011 EB has 153,000 miles on it. It will occasionally rattle for a few seconds on start up and then settle down. Has done that for years.
