Ecoboost and T24TBSS

Hello -

I am looking at a 2013 Ford F150 Ecoboost with 3.55 gears. It looks to be pretty well set up, including sway control. I currently tow behind an '06 Navigator with weight distribution and sway control. I'd be moving that system over to the F150.

Is anybody towing a similar load, and how does the F150 do? I like the motor, it should have the power to pull my rig. Anybody seeing too much sway, it the truck too light, to handle a 6500 lb. trailer? My Navigator is an Ultimate and can tow 8900 lbs. It just does not have the oomph that I need.

Towing numbers are one animal.
The payload rating for the truck is what needs to be known.
Mine is 1520 lbs.
I think our TT weighs about 6200 lbs. Sometimes the trailer handles the truck.
I am going to order an F350.

I have a 2013 F-150 with Ecoboost. Tow a 26ft TT at about 6,800lb. Went to Florida last winter from Wisconsin and it towed like a champ. Year before I towed same TT with an F-150 with 5.4 V8. The Ecoboost handled the trip a lot better. Pulled up Mt. Eagle in Tenn. without even dropping down a gear, and slowed me down going down the other side beautifully. Not real happy with the gas milage. Got about 11mpg towing trailer and I get about 22 mpg
on the highway without the trailer. I'm happy with the truck.

Stayed a few nights at a state park campground in the Ozarks last month. Parked nearby was a green & tan F350 dually hooked up to a huge Columbus 5er. Had to be one of the best looking trucks I've ever seen. Sweet enough to give me a touch of that F350 envy...

You may run out of payload b4 you run out of towing pounds.
I drive 65 MAX.
I am tired of getting pushed and pulled by trucks and motor homes when on the freeway. I can feel vehicles coming up on me on the freeway. I feel surges of speeding up and slowing down in traffic on the freeway.
I want a truck that will lead the trailer at all times.

breul, have you had to smash the brakes in a turn?
Have you had to smash the brakes ever with your setup?
Have you come around a corner at 55 mph and realized that the pavement dips 6 or 8 inches for 15 or 20 feet from a small slide? Getting bucked by a trailer while looking at the grill of a dump truck will put stains on the seat.

My Dad towed a 21 foot TT with a dually preparing for a fiver. He owns his fourth fiver and his third dually. NONE of the fivers have been over 30 feet.

I complimented my Dad once and he replied "I didn't get this old being stupid"

We tow with a 2012 F150 platinum crewcab with ecoboost. Travel trailers towed are a 2009 Rockwood 8315SS (33 ft and 850# tongue wt.) and currently a 2014 Rockwood 8310SS (34 ft and 600# tongue wt). They both weigh about 7800 lbs. I tow with an "equi-lizer" hitch and have never experienced any sway problems and hardly know the TT is back there. However, I do notice it in my gas mileage. On the highway w/o TT ususlly get 20-21 mpg with the TT get 8-10 mpg. The high TT profile presents quite a wind load which make the truck shift into 5th gear on hills but we hardly notice this happening.

Maybe you should slow down to 55 and save on brake pads.

That's GREAT gas mileage pulling a trailer of that size with a gasser.

X2. It handled the 8000 lb 2703SS no problems and the 9500 lb 5er 8289WS even better. I also had a 5.4 F 150 that really was poor in the torque department. Ecobboost blows the doors off of the 09 5.4l.

I thought that the F150 was a capable truck for towing up to it's rated capacities.

Really? You are pulling close to 4 tons and you hardly notice it? Really?
Your truck weighs maybe 3 tons and you're pulling more than it weighs - and you hardly notice it? Really?

We just finished a trip to Cape Cod and pulled our TT nearly 2,500 kms with our Ecoboost.
I should mention that we have the Max Tow and HD payload combined with the longer wheelbase and LT tires. The payload is 2493 lbs.
Our trailer loaded runs around 8,000 lbs and is 34'9" in length.
We use a Husky Centerline hitch with WD and Sway control.
I tested the engine a little on some hills - the truck was easily capable of acceleration through the steepest hills in the finger lakes area of New York.
On cruise control, the engine only dropped one gear to maintain speed (usually set between 95-100 kms) on the vast majority of the grades.
Just amazing for a 6 cylinder engine. On the flats gas mileage was running at 20-21 liters/100 kms. On the windy or hilly sections the numbers rise to 22-24 liters/100 kms.

I researched all available trucks before purchasing our 2012 EcoBoost and man did I pick the right truck for our current trailer! Absolute joy and fun towing with our current setup!

That's 9.8 to 11.8 miles per US gal for those that don't speak metric. Were those figures off the computer or hand calculated?

The EcoBoost has plenty of power to tow that trailer. I would look to get one with the 3.73 gears for more towing cap.

I would concur with that mileage with the TT. 5er costs a little more all around to run with the increased wind load and extra weight. I would say flat towing in ontario's west coast is 22 l per 100 km and hill with mod ate downshifting rises to 26l per 100 km. I must also add I do use cruise and this does allow 6th cruising at 90 km with a downshift to 5th at times.

I do have 3.73 this can climb and maintain on Near North slopes between Barrie and Sudbury, probably the steepest terrain in southern Ontario

Steve. We pull a 30' Rockwood TT. Max weight about 6500lbs. Equalizer 4 hitch. We have a 2013 F-150 ECO with the 3.73 super cab. We just completed a trip of about 6000 miles with 4500 of them towing from FL to Canada and back. Semi trucks. let me just say this. We traveled up I-81 in VA. Truck haven, no problem. All trucks will push and pull you some due to their bow wave but the truck and trailer handled it great. No sway.

Drive 60 MPH max. Set the cruise and enjoy yourself. I was passed by plenty of idiots with big trucks pulling their TT or fifth wheels and 70+. Tires, tires, tires,.... I never was white knuckled and actually forgot about the TT being there. Very little wear and tear on myself.

I got in the mid 9mp, hand calculated, not from dash system which is questionable..

Hey, have fun, love your truck and I am very pleased with mine.

I have seen the same thing. I wonder how many blowouts happen when running at 62 mphr 100km/hr in In Canada when operating within design limits.

I recently purchased a stealth wa2715 and I am towing this with a 2012 f150, super crew , 5.0L, 4x4, 145" wb, dry weight is 7200 lbs. loaded with my wildat cat and other tuff is 9200 lbs. my last trailer weighed about 7000 lbs and towed with this same truck just fine.

Does anyone have advice for me about towing this trailer?
