Electric trailer brake controller
Just got a new tow truck and wondering if anyone has different views on the brake controller they use.

If possible, install a factory system as they are better than any aftermarket inertia sensing controller.

Tekonsha p3 hands down! Had a Reese not sure exact model but I got the p3 a few months later and big difference. It takes a few minutes to set up but I no longer have that pull of sudden jerk when applying the brakes. Watch some videos on it. I don’t think there are any much better out there.

Thanks all. I was looking at reviews, and the Tekonsha was the best there as well.

I agree with all these comments. OEM is first choice, second and only other choice to me is the Tekonsha P3.
You didn't list what your TV is but you can get the controller with the harness adapter for a few more bucks.

I hear lots of complaints about the OEM system, with no way to correct. They are a great idea, but you have little flexibility.
You can't go wrong with the Tekonsha P2 or P3. OEM is a better idea, due to integration with ABS and stability control systems, etc. But as far as it's ability to stop the rig in the shortest time, I do not think an OEM system can be significantly better, and some have stated they are not as good as their previous Tekonsha.
Let the bashing begin!!

I was looking at the price of the OEM in comparison to any other and it's pretty steep considering you can get a great out of the box as well.
Just to flash the computer, if you buy and install everything your self, is over $100.

The tekonsha with the adapter cord on Amazon was just under $140. Hooked up and set up for towing probably about 1 hour total time including driving and testing hooked up.

When I installed the OEM controller in my F-150 even with the dealer activation fee it was comparable to the Tokansha in cost.

I have the factory controller in my 2016 and the Tekonsha P3 in my 2015 trucks. Tekonsha P3 allows me to preprogram for all my trailers, factory one I have to remember where to set for each trailer.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure Ford (and likely other OEM systems), have the ability to store settings for several trailers.

I have the Tekonsha P3 and love it but if I had a choice of the OEM, I would get that in a heart beat.

My 2015 F-150 allows for settings for more than one trailer. I don't know to what degree but it can recognize different trailers as well. I found this out when I hooked up a borrowed trailer and it detected it as a new trailer.

I have a Jordan controller on my 2000 F350. Works off pressure to brake pedal.

That would appear to be the most logical method...but not the least expensive.

Do they even make those anymore?
