Steve, without pictures of your hitch when assembled I won't even hazard to guess. Here is a photo of how my rig was connected when I towed the travel trailer.

When properly connected the bars should be parallel to the frame. Also look at your hitch head. It should be adjusted up or down to let the camper be level and then canted with the washers to allow the bars to be level to the camper when engaged.

Again

Those brackets don't look like mine either. I went to Equalizer's website and found an owners manual for the 4K pound hitch. Your brackets look just like the ones pictured for the 4K Pound rated hitch. If they installed the 4K hitch it is only rated for 400 lbs tongue weight and 4K lbs trailer weight. Your trailer has a GVWR of almost double that. I think that your hitch (or at least the L-Brackets) are too light for your trailer.

Here is the 4K owners manual (I hope I attached it right)

OK, it would help to take a step back here.

What hitch weight do you have and what is the GVWR of your camper?

I was towing a 6,800 pound camper with a 12,000 pound rated hitch.

Ok all Trudinators DH here.
coupler is style B
hitch is 10k
bolts are tight to frame top and bottom
due to hitch style inverted frame brackets are proper installation
over torqueing of frame bracket bolts is my opinion of "cause of failure"
dealer will install new brackets on 5/16/12 I will suggest this and assist with proper torqueing if they are in agreement with my cause of failure.

thanks to all for ideas and suggestions.

LOL. Didn't need an enforcer! They had brand new brackets for us and they're thicker than the old ones. Repairs done in about 20 minutes. It was installed properly; the brackets just failed. Hopefully the new design will hold up better. Also gave me some grommets for the stove and a new key for the outside shower, which I lost last year along with all my other camper keys. Locksmith could cut all of them BUT the outside shower key. Go figure. Ordered a new propane/CO detector because ours is failing and they just ran out of them. Said FR had a bad bunch of them, so everyone be on the lookout for failures.. Did manage to spend a bit of money while we were there; found the screw in caps for the fresh water, black water flush and anti freeze inlet and also bought some roof sealant. Saw a 5th wheel while there with the Diamond package.....it was a beauty, but no outside kitchen. Deal breaker right there! Plus we love our gigantic bathroom on the 8293RKSS. All in all a pleasant experience and just in time for another camping weekend. Thanks again to all for the suggestions/comments.

Dear, you forgot to mention that the replacement sofa and table shipped on Monday and should be in this week also. I must admit that Roskopfs has treated us quite well and even offered some tips on modding. I was shooting the breeze about adding another light so the serviice tech told me how to enter the interior wall to run some wires. he even suggested tying in new outlet for our electric heater into the microave circut as it is a dedicated circuit and e shouldn't have issues with the breaker or GFCI tripping.

Dealers don't install these 'all the time'. They may be common here on this forum, but not for the average RV'er. The link plates bend when over tightened. My dealer installed mine, overtightened and bent the plates and Progress sent me new ones free of charge. The dealer will not touch my EQ ever again. They didn't even torque my ball anywhere near spec and it was slightly tilted when I got the trailer home. Don't assume the dealer knows everything, becasue they don't.

And that is why I think it's a good idea for everyone to read the manual and understand their hitch. It's sometimes nice to have the dealer set it up, especially since most people do not have a thin-walled socket for the ball. But, we all need to know the right torque settings and proper measurements, too.

What do you mean "they don't install these all the time" ? Explain?

Your ball should or may be tilted for proper set up.

I think he meant the ball was loose in its socket and not the hitch head tilted. At least that is how I read it.

Don't even get me started on some of the so called "technicians" that work at some dealerships.

Boy Howdy to that Herk. Our first tech was very knowledgeable and really liked my idea to install vertical bolts in the axles to keep them from twisting down in the slots.

However, when we had to have a new landing jack installed, that tech didn't have a clue how to do it. After about 3 hrs, I told him I would finish it, which I did while he picked up his tools. Went home and re-did everything he did, took an hr to straighten out his mess and put it back like it was originally.
Funny also, I had the cross shaft, motor already off when we went there.
