Equalizer hitch

I just upgraded from a 26tbss to a new Rockwood 8327ss. My equalizer hitch is about 4 yrs old now and we moved it to the new camper. Its the 10k lb model. The tongue on that trailer is said to be 1200lbs. It looks like I maybe overloading that hitch. I do pull with a F350 and it pulls great. should I upgrade that hitch? I cant decide

Two things: 1) don't go be "said" anything, load your camper as you will travel with it and scale it to know exactly where you are. 2) If you exceed either 1,000#/10,000# you need to upgrade.

I have the same 10k hitch and the max. tongue weight is 1k.
So I struggle with the same issue.... It's real close, but technically over!
My measured trailer tongue weight is about 1,150 lbs, so say 1,200 lbs. as well.

However, this is the hitch that was sold to the original owner of my trailer by the dealer.

Yeah I'm torn it pulls fine. Do I really to spend the money?

I upgraded my hitch when I was in the same spot. Sold the 10k for $300 something on craigslist in a few days. The guy drove 75 miles to come get the hitch. Making the whole upgrade less pain full.
For me I went with the 14k hitch and Im happy with it.

This would be my deciding factor. Is it just the spring bars that are different or is the head/shank different? If it's just the bars and it indeed tows fine, I'd leave it. If any load carrying part of the setup is underrated, then I would upgrade and sell the old system as mentioned above.

Another option is if the head and shank are the same, you could always just upgrade the bars if your uncomfortable being over their rating.

The dealer screwed up with mine and gave me a 1k/10k and I pointed it out when I took it in for warranty work. No questions asked they have a new one sitting there for me when I go pick up the trailer in a couple weeks.

I would weigh the trailer and go from there. If you're over I would say to get one with correct ratings.

I would struggle with the same thing. I think my wallet would say its just fine but my gut would say otherwise.

I think that the plate thickness on the head is different on the ears where it bolts to the shank on the 14K version. I also am pretty confident the 14K bars won't fit the 10K hitch. I seem to recall the mounting holes being offset rather than centered on them because they were thicker. I think it's either roll with what you have or change out the entire hitch.

That could be. I know on the Reese Dual Cam, it's the same head but I guess it's different on the Equalizer. Too bad.

Why not just call Progress and ask the questions you have? They will answer anything (at least anything I ever threw at them). They will have to tell you that you shouldn't put 1200# on a 1000# hitch, but they can also tell you why related to their hitch. I am sure they can tell you if an upgrade is possible.
