Equalizer Hitch question

I just started using a new Equalizer with 4 pt sway control this year with our new Windjammer. We are about 10 trips in so far and love the setup.

This past weekend we arrived at our campsite and I was in the process of disconnecting the sway bars when I noticed a good sized chunk of metal is missing from where the left side bar enters the port on the hitch itself. I have no idea how it happened but know it happened on the hour long drive to the campground.

Has anyone seen this happen before? I'll be contacting my dealer this week to run it by him.

Have any pics to show what you're talking about?

I'll have to grab a few in the morning. But I will do just that. Thanks!

Take pics and send them to Equalizer directly. I had issues with bowing in my L brackets. Had a reply within 30 mins and they mailed new brackets to me. Very responsive to problems or questions. Great company.

x2 on working directly with Equal-I-zer. If the bar was secured properly with the pin, I can't think how this would happen other than a material defect in the bar. Get a well-focused closeup of that fracture area to send to them.

The engineers at Equalizer will probably want that bar to analyze, and follow up with their supplier. It is best not to alter the fracture area in any way.

I bet he means the "socket" on the hitch that the bar slides into. I have had a small piece break out myself almost like it was chipped. I have been going to send a pic to equal-i-zer but haven't taken the time to do it yet.

Mkayers. You got it! My chunk that is missing is on the top portion of the left side "port" where the bar slides into and is pinned.

Curious to know if you have torqued the socket bolts before or if you have left it as is since you bought it.

I just picked it up in march. The hitch is how it was set up for me at the dealer. Other than the routine preventative maintenance, nothing has been done to it.

Is it possible that the chain made that? The shape looks similar to a link.

So it looks like this picture is sideways and the gouge is out of the top of the sleeve the torsion bar slides into. I would guess that somebody or something ran into it when the bars were not in or something such as a rock became jammed in between the bar and that sleeve and cause it when going over a bump. Are the bars in perfect shape? I would be contacting Equalizer about that immediately.

Yeah, the photo is sideways. I had to lay it on its side in order to get the focus right on my iPhone. Sorry if its confusing.

As far as the chain causing it, not possible. This is the top of the socket that the bar plugs into.

I never leave my hitch connected unless the Jammer is connected to the truck. I have kids that would run right into it. This includes at the campgrounds. And as far as a rock getting in there, I just don't see it happening. I'm going to get a hold of equalizer tomorrow and I will be sure to keep everyone posted. I was just curious as to if anyone else has experienced this or not.

Thanks again for the thoughts and input!

I'm curious to hear what they have to say. That is almost identical to mine.

Ok. So I never contacted Equalizer directly regarding the crack in the hitch socket. Instead I brought the trailer to my dealer for warranty work this past Wednesday, and has them document the crack. The service manager said that Equalizer is great to deal with and they will most likely replace the entire head of the hitch. He said it appeared to be an air bubble during the cast process. I'll let everyone know how it turned out.

The other big issue with my 2013 Windjammer is the distance between the tires and the wheel well of the trailer. There is actually evidence of contact between them. I'm very anxious to see what their remedy is for that one!

Are the TT's springs under or on top of the axels.

Two options come to mind, one spacer blocks between the springs and axel or move the springs to the top of the axel.

I don't believe there are any springs at all. Torsion bars only? Could that be?

not sure the cause of the damage to your head but Equalizer will likely replace it. In my case on an E2 Equalizer they replaced the head due to similar issue. Very easy to work with. Good luck.
