Equalizer shank New Ram
As you might know the new crop of the 2500 4x4 ram's are pretty tall. I need to change my shank to get the trailer level and a bit nose down. I bought a 6" drop from Amazon tonight but fear it's not enough and am thinking of going with the 9". Any feedback from Ram owners???

Not sure what your tongue weight is but I agree 6 inches just a liitle shy. I'm running with 680 pounds on tongue its level but i have not room to adjust and I wish I had 7 or 8 inches.

10-4. Thanks for the feedback. I was able to cancel the order and replace it with the the 9" drop. My tongue weight is about 900lbs. This should give me some good adjustability.

Yes actually I meant 860 that was a typo. I may end up changing my shank out and going to a longer one also.

When I traded my 1500 for a 2500, I flipped the shank over and had plenty of "drop".

If it helps, I used a 6" drop shank on my 05 Ram 2500 4x4... I don't think the newer ones are much taller... in fact, I towed my old TT into the dealer to trade it off with my 2014 Ram 3500 dually 4x4, and the 6"drop shank was fine. On the 3500 though I used an adapter sleeve because of the 2.5" reciever.

It depends on the height of your travel trailer ball when it is level. On my 2014 RAM 4 wheel drive 2500 diesel, with a 22" trailer ball height, I wish I had a 7" drop. I have a Husky round bar WDH. 6" works for me but I'm still a little heavier on the rear and light on the front of the truck.

I have to agree with you. I also have a 2016 Ram 2500 4x4 and they are a lot higher. I had to get a new hitch bar to get down to the correct height. I used n Equilizer with a 6" drop. Pulled the trailer last weekend with the new setup. No problems.

I have a 2015 Ram 2500 Cummins 4X4 with the optional 20" wheels and it's 25" to the top of the receiver is that in the ball park with the measurements others are getting ??
I'm still using an older extra drop shank with my old WD setup from my previously lifted TV on the new TV. My TT sits at about 22" with about 850lb tongue weight. I want to get an Equalizer hitch and get the 2.5 Shank with 6" drop I sent an email to Etrailer and they claim I should have no issue with that set up.

IIRC, my measurement to the top of the 2.5" receiver opening is 24"
2016 2500 with stock 18" wheels and tires, stock suspension.
My hensley uses a 6" drop stinger and its the perfect height.

I have the same numbers as you almost exactly including 20" tires also. Top of my TT ball when level is 22"
6" barely works but it'll work. With 860 lbs tongue weight, the TT is level, the truck is 1" to 1 1/2" short of being back to it's unloaded height which is acceptable but I'd like to be able to pull up a little more but my TT is not level when I do that.
A 7" or 8" drop would have allowed me to lift the rear of the truck more and transfer more of the tongue weight forward. Also, it depends on how particular you are. (I'm anal about getting things exact)

Not sure the reason but with 20" tires on my 2014, I could use another 1 to 2 inches of drop to get my TT back to 22" ball (top of ball) and truck back to within an 1" of unloaded height. I have a Husky round bar WDH which may sit a little higher with the same shank. Top of my 2" shank is 24 3/4".

I just got my weight bars set up this weekend.
With my chains on the third link (Im using a Hensley) the rear dropped right around 2 inches and the front came up .5. The back end was a little bouncy so I pulled the chains up 1 link, now on the 4th link. The rear still settled in around 2" and the front only came up 3/8 of an inch.
It is my opinion that these Ram trucks handle the relative little bit of weight of a travel trailer very well. Thats assuming a typical travel trailer, realizing they can all vary in weight drastically. We are pulling a Solaire 317BHSK which has a relatively light 685# dry tongue weight. I have added 4 6 volt batteries to the tongue though so I'm carrying that weight as well.
With a 3000# + payload capacity, 1000# or so on the tongue isn't really a big deal. IMO.

My experience is the same as others. 2500 4x4 with 20" wheel option. The shank i ended up going with was the 9" drop and I am using 7" of it. Trailer now sits just a tad nose down. Towed this past weekend with heavy winds and no issues. the 6" drop would likely work but for me but i wanted the extra flexibility. These trucks are almost too tall from the factory!

Agree, hard to find more than a 6" drop locally. 7" would be perfect for me also. Wish I would have waited and ordered. I overpaid at a local dealer.

Thank you for this post EJS.. I have been wondering what the measurement was on the new 2500 RAMs from ground to top of reciever...
For reference, I measured ground to top of reciever this morning on my 2014 3500 dually and had 25" so I think it is safe to say they are very close to the same hitch height.

Yes, same experience with me. The springs handle the weight better than any truck I've owned. I also added togue weight, I'm now at 860 (verified) and I don't even hook up the WDH locally. The 2" to 2 1/2' drop I get just barely levels the truck bed.
