Equalizer WDH
When I purchased my Heritage Glen the dealer threw in a Equalizer WDH. Went out last week on our maiden voyage with the new TT. Now I know that WDH's for the most part make some noise, but It sounded like a freight train behind me....squeaks, groans, bangs, pops, squeals.
Other users have this problem? Is this common for Equalizer? I heard they were a top line WDH.
Thanks,

They are noisy. Amazon sells plastic pieces that affix to the l brackets ten your arms run on those cuts down some of the noise.

This is from the owners/setup manual:
"Noise:
Noise is a normal occurance when towing a trailer and using any weight
distribution or sway control hitch.
In some cases the friction on the L-brackets or sockets also generates
noise. This most commonly occurs during slow, tight turns where the tow
vehicle and trailer are in a twist. This noise is normal and should be expected.
It is an indication that there is friction on the L-bracket and sockets.
Most of the noise will usually subside after a few uses as the hitch breaks in.
Trailer and tow vehicle loading may also influence hitch noise.
Lubricating the socket joint may help reduce this noise, and is part of
the required regular maintenance routine. Lubricating the L-bracket joint is
optional. A better solution is a set of official Equal-i-zer brand Sway Bracket
Jackets™. They quiet the ride without the mess of using a lubricant."
I always clean all surfaces before each trip and use a little white lithium spray grease on the friction surfaces. Some here use spray graphite, others use some sort of oil/lub and some don't use anything at all. MANY opinions on this! Equalizer even sells an oil and the "sleeves" that rmac04401 mentioned.
I don't really notice the noise...I don't know if it got quieter, I got used to it or a combination of both!

Keep your socket friction surfaces well lubricated and that will greatly cut down on the noise. You are supposed to do that anyways, although many people don't take the extra time.

Get these teflon pads from from Amazon and put them on your hitch. I've had them on mine for several years and they really eliminate most of that terrible noise.

Grease the ball. Grease the rotation points where the WD bars install at the hitch head. Use the sway bracket jackets. Noise pretty much eliminated. Grease will need to be reapplied regularly.

They are designed for "Metal to Metal Friction" that is the Best Anti-Sway they are going to perform! ANY Lube or Pad added to "Quite it Down" also Reduces the Sway control%! Thats the way it is! Youroo!!

The company that makes the hitch sells the Teflon pads as well as lube AND state that it can be used. That's the way it is.

I've never had a bit of sway so if the performance is degraded it is so insignificant that it isn't worth mentioning. Anyway I don't mind the noise & love the hitch! Too each there own!

They have to Pacify the Customers who "Complain" about the Noise buy saying lube and making the pads! But the diclaimer also says "Reduction if used"! Now Reese Dual Cam is a Step above since their Bars have a "Detent Cam" that Must be overcome as well as the "Friction on the Cam and Bars"! Youroo!! Let me see if something is "Rubbing/sticking/making noise, and I Lube it it Moves easier and Makes Less Noise!

Glad you like the Reese! It's a great hitch! So is my lubed Equalizer, which by the way does make noise but I'm OK with it! Let's just move on!

Blue Ox is quiet. Just sayin. I enjoyed using the Blue Ox it has some good features and a crappy wrench. but hey a cheap breaker bar works wonders. I had the Blue Ox before I found the Hensley Arrow really cheap.

Installed the pads yesterday. Was able to try them out taking the rig to the dealer for some warranty work. Would say it cut down on the noise about 75%.

Equalizer is a very quite hitch compared to the reese dual cams (old style) the noise is the best thing I miss about that hitch. After having the equalizer I don`t think I`d go back to the reese hitch.
