Equalizer weight distribution hitch

We are looking at buying a weight distribution hitch for our 33 foot travel trailer. Does anyone have any feedback regarding the equalizer hitch. We have a 2015 palomino solaire.

Equalizer 4 point is fantastic! I used Equalizer hitches for decades until going to 5ers. No need to remove anything to back up and easy to use! I would use nothing else pulling a TT but others also have favorites.

With so many WTB hitches on the market, and so many reviews it gets confusing. Some say Equalizer removes sway except when being passed by trucks. AnY opinions in that?

A happy user passing on some hitch information. Watch the following two U-Tubes. Personally, I think ProPride is the better hitch. But you can find used Hensley hitches, some sold by the manufacturer. Both are based on the same patented hitch design.
First is a demonstration by someone from MIT. Clearly shows the difference between all conventional hitches and the Hensley design. Second is a similar demonstration but shows how hard it is for the trailer to cause sway.

Both hitches have fully integrated weight distribution. No need to disconnect anything to backup.

Yes, these hitches are significantly more expensive - the difference is the Hensley design is a sway ELIMINATION hitch. All others are sway CONTROL hitches, they control and damp sway via either a spring or friction. Lots of people are perfectly happy with the conventional design, they have been around for years. You need to decide the value of sway elimination.

I would also recommend doing a search for a sway investigation done in Great Brittan. Lots of science and testing in the document by a masters engineering student. Title is "The Dynamics of Towed Vehicles" by Christopher J Killer. Note that this paper talks about "Snaking", that is British for trailer sway.

Have a Equalizer and it works well. You are not going to eliminate all sway as some sway is always present due to tire movement.

As to sway, I have noticed very little to none in the last year with my Equalizer 1200lb 4pt WDH. That was towing with a 1/2 ton as well.

I do not have the white knuckles anymore and my butt no longer leaves a hickey on seat when being passed by a big truck.

I dont experience sway when passed by trucks and doing 60-63 mph on the interstates I get passed by pretty fast moving rigs of all sizes.
Are there other hitches that work as good or better? Sure. But I'm 100% happy with mine, would buy again but I doubt I ever will since we are planning on keeping the Catalina.
You are right, there are lots of conflicting reviews (like most things)....what I do is throw out the lowest and highest reviews and pay attention to the middle of the road folks. But thats just me.
Good luck!

It is all I've used since we got our trailer. I needed a WDH for my previous tow vehicle but not on the F-150. I liked the antisway capability of the Equal-i-zer enough that I still use it but just set up to transfer minimal weight. I can backup with the bars attached but the trailer is not as responsive so I tend to take them off if I know I am going into a tight space like my driveway or campsite with close by trees.

To be fair. I guess some "negatives" of the equalizer are it can be noisy and it is heavy....bars are about 45 lbs and the head is close to 90 (i have the solid 8" drop shank- 2 1/2") Niether of which bother me....the noise isnt horrendous and you quickly dismiss it.

Chuck, I have a like new Equalizer 12,000/1,200 that I used for 2 trips and no longer use since we have a motorhome now. I see you are in Newport Richey which is pretty close to me. If you are interested in it send me a PM and I will give you all the details. It has everything including the manual, hitch ball, and the sway bracket jackets to quiet it down. It has been stored inside my home since removing it.

Etrailer.com has it for $525 without the extras. I would be willing to sell it for $300

I had the Husky Centerline (orgininal) for 3 years and hated every single moment of using it. Parts wearing out, sometimes within 500 miles, had to be dead in line with the trailer to unhitch......hated hated hated it. Went to the Equalizer 4 point and have not looked back. Over 7K miles on this hitch and it handles my combo so much better than the husky. Best value on the market today.

Sway , Whats sway ? a properly loaded tt and you shouldn't have sway . imo if using a wdh make sure your TW is 15% min of loaded TT . of course i don't use a std wdh . no sway , passing trucks no , wind , or speed .

I've had a Hensley for 5 years and I wouldn't buy any other kind.
There is no sway no breath holding times when big trucks pass you and the tide on rough roads is remarkable. Backing up is a breeze. The only down site is the cost. They do sell and guarantee used ones which the way I went. I also like they you can call them. Talk to a person who will provide a solution to your questions.
