I read this and got to checking and my payload (CCC) for my truck is 1475. After taking out 340# for my wife and me and 250 for hitch in bed that leaves 885 for pin wt. I am way over wt. as I see it. Any disagreement? As a newbie to 5th wheels I naively listened to the salesman convince me that my truck could more than handle the weight and pull the RV with out problems. Do I need a new and bigger truck?

Don't listen to the salesmen, listen to the members on this blog- the majority are bang on with what I have learned. When we go to tow mode we will get a lighter trailer, save gas and feel safe. Cheers to all.

How am I over and what am I over on? A statement like that is confusing. Could you elaborate?

This refers to the pin weight of the 5th wheel as compared to the cargo capacity of the pickup.

The problem with a 3/4 diesel is the fact that the engine weighs so much.
Eats up your payload.
With four adults, I only had 700 lbs left for payload.

My yellow sticker says my payload is 2290 pounds. My tongue weight when my trailer is the heaviest is 1285 (when full of water for traveling- a note though I have only filled my TT with water once for traveling but for this illustration I will use all the "high" numbers). I run the EQ 4 pt which is 78 pounds.
I carry two 2k's with gas and those are 100 pounds combined. I carry 3 bikes and those are 105 pounds combined. I carry one cooler with snacks and drinks that is 35 pounds and I put my sons plastic picnic table in the truck bed too, which is 15 pounds. Other than that it is just me my wife and my son in the truck and all of us are less than 400 pounds.
All of us and the truck gear is 655 pounds plus the highest TW of 1285 equals, plus the WDH is 2018 pounds total. 2290 - 2018 = 272 pound wiggle room (which is good because my sons 3 and he will get bigger).
I have been to the CAT scale unloaded, loaded, with and without WDH. I am intimately familiar with my weights (because on my old truck I was over) but I can say without a doubt with my new truck and setup I am not over.

Im assuming he assumed you had a 5er like the OP. If you had a 5er of the same weight, your wiggle room would be gone.
Have fun camping!

That makes a little more sense, I'd be looking at 25 percent of gvw instead of about 15 ish now. I can see that being eaten up quick.

This is the only "1/2" ton I would tow a fifth with. They do make them.
My old 04 F150 with a 10 3/4 rear end and a 3000 lb payload.
That truck drove very nice with or without a load.
I would put my Rzr in the bed and forget it was there.

LOL. Don't bring any of that common sense stuff into this discussion, it is not welcome.

As long as you are aware of the fact that you traded your 250 for the exact same truck with an overload spring and possibly a 4" block instead of 2" more power to you. But if you truly think you are safer or more responsible than a 250 owner because your sticker says so I'd have to respectfully disagree.

Sorry, but I go by the door sticker, same thing dot would if I got pulled over.
It's not just a suggestion.
I'll put this one on the scale next time I am in the city.
My ram was 7919 without me in it.
10k gross.
My 350 is 11 gross.
The 6.7 CUMMINS engine is 1150lbs dry
The V10 is 620lbs.
The ram had wimpy coil springs.
The 350 has leafs.
It all makes a difference.

That could be specd to do that.
They did have a "7700" package.
2wd long box, 7 lug wheels....
It was possible.

Like I said, more power to you. I saw you have an F350 and I was clearly referring to a 250 to 350 transition, not a Dodge 2500 to a Ford 350 transition. You can actually get a 350 derated to a 10K GVWR- nothing changes but the sticker. The 10K limit on the 250 is about money, not safety, IMHO.

In my case the derated F 250 is about licencing and need for annual inspections as a truck over 10,000 lbs. My truck is equipped same as a F350 except 2 inch blocks, springs, diff etc are the same

I had a F 150 with 7650 GVWR package and 1600 lbs payload.
I have only seen 1 2WD with 8 ft and 7 lug wheels. The CCC was 2500 lbs.

Actually, on the model '13 year and likely others, the MaxTow had a GVWR of 7650-7700 with that standard 6 lug wheels. You could get the HD Payload package that had 7 lugs and had a GVWR of 8200. What's funny is that the MaxTow got a 500lb bump in GVWR with NO structural changes whatsoever- confirmed through research of Ford lit and contrary to many confused opinions on the Internet. The HD did have structural changes, however.

I'm fine with the annual safety.
Best inspection you could get for a hundred bucks.
I wish all vehicles on the road would be subject to annual safety.
Would take a lot of crap off the road.

Me too. I just purchased a 2015 F250 with the camper package- meaning it is actually a 350 other than mine has the 2" blocks instead of the 4". My 250 actually has a 3.55 rear axle even though the 3.31 is standard on the 250 and 350. I could have spent an additional $3000 and gotten a 2016 F350(no 15's left remotely close to what wanted), but I felt that $3K was pretty steep for a sticker. I get a kick out of people thinking that DOT is primarily concerned with safety- they are concerned with revenue.

Right. So what's a good way to increase revenue?
