Extending receiver

I have an f150 pulling a hybrid with a front bunk that folds down. Trouble is the truck is too close to the trailer to drop the bunk while hitched. Does anyone know if I could use an extender sleeve to move the trailer back and what that would do to my weight distributing properties.

You will find the extension will reduce your max tongue weight and the ones I have seen say not to use a wdh.

Not knowing more about your set up ..... Not recommended it can throw the geometry off, reduce your tongue weight capacity and make towing control more difficult.........

I used to own a hybrid. Why do you want to fold the tent end down when hitched? Just curious.

Extenders are not recommended with a WDH.

I needed to extend the distance from the receiver to the hitch head and bought a longer weight distribution shank for my weight distribution hitch. Weight Distributing Shanks | Hitches Online

That is weird. My front bunk worked on my Jeep, minus the spare.

Why do we need to remain hitched to drop the bunk?

You could but your WDH setup will need to be adjusted and the extension will increase the weight you currently have on the ball.

Our 23ikss has a queen bed and it hits my truck. Was yours a queen?

This is the proper way to get more clearance to lower a front hybrid tipout-while still hitched. Don't get another component in addition to what you have since, as stated, they are not rated for WDH use. You want to actually replace the existing shank with something longer.

In general, adding length decreases stability. But we're talking inches here. The most important thing is that the replacement is rated for at least as much as your existing components (receiver, WDH head, etc).

When we took at 2 week tour of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, we had some overnights between locations, where we were staying less than 24 hours. We didn't both unhooking for those stops. Saves time getting going the next day.

all hybrids ever built, to my knowledge, always had a front queen bunk end.
some did have a double or full in the rear or side.

doesn't mean all front bunk doors stick out the same length. depends on the brand, model and rake of trailer front.

That's interesting - we have an '05 F-150 and '13 23IKSS and the bunk clears the tailgate with no problem (as long as the truck/trailer are reasonably straight). What hitch are you using? We have a Pro Series.

The suggestion to find a longer drawbar seems like the way to go.

Yeah, our front queen tipout (IIRC) is hinged about 18" up the front slope. Others may be lower, and therefore closer to the hitch. My drawbar is also not the original from Equalizer. it did not have enough drop for my trailer. The replacement I found at etrailer.com was several inches longer. In the end, I think I have at least 12" of clearance to the hatch on our Mounty.
