Extra lights on my toad

Hi, just purchase a 2004 34' Georgetown 325DS and a Tow Master dolly to tow my Nissan Cube. I'm taking my RV in on Friday to have it wired for the electric brakes on my dolly. My question is, I was told that I had to have extra lights on my car when towing and that I needed to get those magnetic lights that stick on the top of the car. How exactly do they work? Do I now have to take my car somewhere and have wiring ran so those lights would work?

Magnetic lights have a long cable that plugs into your motorhome at the hitch. Problem is securing the cable on your car.

I have a buddy that tows a Ford pickup and the Ford garage put an extra double filament light socket in his taillights and ran the extra wires underneath the truck to the connector on his motor home. Can't tell any difference and it saves cutting into the factory harness.

Rather ingenious idea I think.

Check the vehicle licensing rules where you live.

I just finished checking this very issue for another buddy and found the following (albeit Ontario Canada)

The towed vehicle ONLY requires running lights.........AS LONG AS THE MOTOR HOME TAIL LIGHTS ARE CLEARLY VISIBLE FROM THE REAR SHOWING TURN AND BRAKE LIGHTS. The dolly only needs running lights if being towed empty and the turn and brake lights are clearly visible from behind.

Your rules may vary.

For once - this is a law that uses common sense and is easy to understand and comply with.

I'm under the impression if lights on dolly work than the car being towed does not require lights. In the past two weeks I have observed this way with vehicles coming thru NH for vacations. I have the magnetic lights but the DW car is fiberglass. Plus with tow dolly plugged into mh, where would the lights plug into? Thanks for asking the question Travelbug49.
