Now with the F350 I have 7180 lbs rear axle gross weight ratings which gives me some breathing room.

I also notice that the Chevy locked out 6th gear in tow haul mode and the Ford doesn't. I just took a trip I took many times in the Chevy and the Ford only shifted into 5th gear a couple of times and stayed in 6th gear.
Please give more details on the duramax locking out 6th gear in tow/haul. I've had 5 duramax and none have ever done that

I had a 2013 Chevy 2500HD Diesel and when you push in the tow haul mode it would drop a gear into 5th gear. I first notice it when I was not towing and going 70 MPH and push tow haul button in the RPM would increase - take it out two haul the rpm would go back down. Then while towing on flat ground I could take it out tow haul mode then put back in tow haul mode and the RPM would drop till I hit hill then it would down shift back into 5th gear.

Ford V Ram

Just bought 2015 Ram 2500- 6.7 after owning Ford and now pulling same rig it is like nite and day. The 6.7 engine and 6 speed trans out pull my Ford by leaps and bounds. Might want to check out new truck deals compared to used, for the difference in price used wasen't worth it.

fwiw, my 2011 Ford F-250 SD 6.7 Diesel has a payload sticker of 2878. It is SRW, 4x2, Supercab. Only once have I wished it was 4x4. I'm to old and the truck is to heavy to get it off road. I added a set of SuperSprings and Bilsteins shocks. Expectedly, neither Supersprings nor Ford will admit to a payload increase, but while they say no, there's that accompanying wink and a nod that I'm now equal to a 1 ton. When I asked the Ford service manager if adding the overload springs would increase payload, he nodded his head up/down while saying no.
Just sayin'

The load capacity of 3/4 ton trucks is all over the place based on the equipment and accessories. I have a 2013 SRW 2WD 2500Hd Diesel that has a sticker rating of 2861 lbs. most are not that high. A loaded truck with 4x4 may be hundreds of pounds less.

There are 2 F250 2014 Crew Cabs with Blistens parked close to me. They are towing 40 ft fivers weighing in at 16,000 with pin at 2500 lbs. I see no problem myself with this.

I agree I had 2500hd diesel with 2475 pin weight and after I installed a fifth wheel hitch and me and my wife my CCC went under 2,000 lbs to say under the GVWR of 10,000 lbs.

My F350 diesel has a CCC of 3744 and with hitch loaded went to 3200 lbs.

Pin weight of 16,000 lbs 5er of only 2500 lbs is 15%, that is a really low percentage. Normally they fall between 20% and 25% or 3200 lbs to 4000 lbs.

All towing guides recommend 15-25% for 5th wheel towing. If 15% works then there shouldn't be a problem.

I won't want to tow a 5er weighting 16,000 lbs with only 15% on the pin with 3/4 ton truck but that's me. I also like towing within manufacture specs but again that just me.

If what your towing is long, the Ford turning radius suck . When backing in to a state park site that hasn't keep up without time. Wheel base should also be considered

I have a short cab and a half and 6 3/4 ft box just for that reason. Ease of driving dry and parking wet. Some people are so litigation based on decision what to do.
