F150 camper shell question

Will a 2014 F150 shell fit on a 2016 F150? Both have 6.5 beds

Past experience tells me most likely not. It may sort of fit but not look exactly perfect. Just call or email Leer, ARE, or someone else and ask, they'll tell you. Maybe you'll get lucky. They probably just changed the bed dimensions enough to make it not fit right. That's usually the case.

Caps are possibly a bigger money loser than RVs or boats. I have lost my rear end over the years quite a few times. You can pay $1500 or $2000 for one now. If you trade the truck in 2 years later the dealer won't want it or won't give you anything for it "for real". It may be worth $400 on Craigslist. Last time I traded in a 2013 Chevy and was able to get $600 for a 3 year old Eagle brand cap which is a cheapo, about $1000 new. I felt like I hit the Jackpot. The guy that bought it put it on a Ford, it was made for a 2013 Chevy, it really looked like hell.

This time I went back to Leer on my 2015. Don't waste your money on them. They used to be just a little better than anything else out there but apparently not anymore. They went downhill (read cheap) the same way Snugtop did. Now they are just mediocre quality, but still demand top dollar. I'd look into a Jason if I had it to do over.

I would think it will.
A quick look on the 'net for bed covers says 2014 and 2016 models 6.5' beds are the same part number.

You have to be careful, a bed cover is not a cap / shell. The frame for covers sits on top or inside of the bed rail. It doesn't matter if it rides all the way to the edge in the back and is in an inch each side at the front.

The overall outsides have not been symetrical for awhile. From outer edge to outer edge of bed rail will be different from front to back. A lot of the caps are now coming down over the bed rails and need to fit perfectly. If they are the type with the bottom trim and more or less sit on top, as I said before they'll fit on but will look like crap. You'll see the difference with a cap that you will not see in a cover.

Here is a fitment chart for Snugtop Ford Model Availability - Truck Caps and Tonneau Covers | SNUGTOP. There is a reason the years go 2004-08, 2008-14, 2015/16.

I doubt the 14 will fit right on 15/16.

I think you're correct. I believe the tailgates prior to 2015 were flat on top and the 2015 and up arch upwards a little. It's the small little changes that they get you with.

Just tried to put the 14 shell on the 16. It does not fit. I tried the tonneau cover and it is too short. Anyone in the Mooresville NC area want to buy a shell for $350. And I'll throw in the tonneau cover

You also have to look at the curvature of the back of the cab on each usually this is where they do not fit. I think they change them slightly so you will have to buy new one for each year. I think different models also like xlt, larriat, King, the rear of the cab is not exactly as the other.

Years ago pickups had a straight vertical line on back of cab now they impress over the bed slightly. At least on F150. Took me the longest time to find use one off craigslist that fit my truck.
