F150 Ecoboost MaxTow Hitch Weight question
My brother is looking at getting the Ecoboost Maxtow. I know hitch ratings are 10% of the Max trailer weight, but my brother has a trailer with a dry hitch weight of 991 lbs, and a GVWR of 9591 lbs. I'm thinking loaded he would be around 1300 lbs hitch weight.
So here is my question. As long as he doesn't go over the GVWR of the TV, should he be OK with the heavy hitch weight on the TT. Of coarse he would be using a WD hitch. What are your thoughts?
Does anyone have an Ecoboost that says what the receiver is able to carry (sticker on the hitch)?

You're probably right about the 1,300 (and my edit) to 1,400 pounds of tongue weight. Keep in mind, the truck's GVWR also has to include the driver, passengers and anything he carries in it and in the bed (including the bed topper/cover, if he adds one) as well as the hitch itself. It's generally this number that you run out of capacity first.
I can't help you on the hitch capacities, though...

Interesting- it seems like you're going to max out the to the weight before you're able to hit the max trailer weight unless you really fight for 10% tongue weight. I wonder how trailers do with sway with that percentage of tongue weight.

Surprised at the lack of replies. I personally wouldn't do it.

Agreed. The hitch is engineered for a certain amount of weight. Going over that weight rating may eventually cause failure.

If you ever had a trailer at both limits (11,500 and 1,150), you would not be able to have any passengers nor cargo in the truck. Max tow rating is (typically) only usable with an empty truck + driver.
So when you add the spouse, a couple of kids, and some cargo in the bed, you end up with only around 10,500 lbs actual/net towing capacity. If you still have enough payload capacity (?) for the full 1150 TW, that's 11%. And if you (hopefully) add in a little more cushion for safety, the percentage goes up more.
