I'm on the fence about the Ecoboost too... The 2015 increases payload & towing because the truck is lighter. IMO, having even more weight & wind resistance behind a lighter truck does not sound as stable... However, in our lawsuit happy climate, I can't imagine Ford, or others, giving their trucks unsafe ratings. Yes, manufacturers are doing everything they can to have an edge in the competitive truck market, but IMO they are engineering products that are safe within the specs.
So my conclusion is that if you know you can stay within the payload & towing specs, then get the truck that meets your highest priorities. For some with longer commutes, the Ecoboost will pay for itself with lower fuel costs. For others who full-time and/or are prone to travel mountain passes in all kinds of weather, they may opt for the max. stability a 1 ton TD dually provides. Choices & competition are good. IMO we will continue to see better performance combined with better mileage.
