Acadianbob, no i am not short of power. I was thinking that it might stay in 6th gear more resulting in a quieter ride over long trips.

We are in 6th gear 99% of the time towing our RV trailer. The only exception might be rolling hills and a 55 mph speed limit where the RPM gets too darn low. Then I lock out 6th.

Why not tow for awhile and see if you have a problem BEFORE you try to FIX it? I think you'll be happy with a stock truck.

We did 6k miles this summer and agree that it stays in 6th pretty darn well. I only locked it down a few times. Pretty good rolling hills and high headwinds. My ears adjust quickly to 5th gear when I lock it down. It's a few hundred rpm difference. I do have the 3.73 rear end. Not sure what you have?

I'm with acadianbob, If you want a tune, get it and enjoy it. Although, I bet with a little time behind the wheel, you wouldn't feel the need so much.

your only going to squeeze so much torque out of a small v6 gas engine. Not that the Ecoboost isn't a capable tow vehicle, but if it isn't getting the job done, diesel will give you twice the torque. Horsepower is for drag racing, torque is for moving stuff.

I'm using an SCT tuner on my 6.0. It really wakes up that motor. There have been lots of V-8 gas engine users reporting some amazing numbers. I can't see why an Eco Boost would be any different. If you're contemplating a tune, you'll prolly get bored with the stock performance and we'll be at this thread again in a few months. Either way, enjoy!

I don't know how much quieter you can get, going from 6th down to 5th is nothing compared to the V8 engine F150's that are constantly in search for their high torque curve, you want to talk about noisy, drive up and down hills with the V8 and you are downshifting and revving like crazy, that's the reason I got rid of my 2010 5.4 V8 and bought a 2013 Eco with the Max tow package. Night a day difference between the two trucks. The older one was screaming at the slightest incline and this one hardly ever downshifts.

I wasn't going to pop for a diesel like some have suggested when the price for that fuel plus the fact you have to put that expensive additive in every now and then just doesn't do it for me. I don't tow 24/7 so the diesel is out in my case.

I don't mind paying a little more for fuel since my mileage is double vs gas, and what expensive additive are you referring too?

Why all the commotion, the 2011 F150 with 8,200#, Max Tow, Heavy Payload, 3.73 rear and 17 inch LT E tires (7 bolt axle) can easily handle 11,200 with weight distribution hitch (1,120 on the ball) or up to 2,393 combination passengers/load. Great for towing 11,000 5er with pin load 1,820 and 3 passengers. Used many times to deliver 1 ton of pellets over the hills. According to Ford there's 420ft/lbs at 2,500 rpm, 365 hp at 5,000 rpm, the only F150 engine better is the 6.2L. If your going to get a big land yacht, get a big tow vehicle (some can,t carry anything but they sure can pull).

DEF is far from expensive. You can't give an accurate opinion if you don't use it. My last tank fill, maybe $10-12 dollars worth, was about 3000 miles ago.

I tuned my 6.0l chevy silverado way south of 10000 miles and towed 14,000 lbs, I traded it @ 20000 with zero powertrain issues.
Loved the mpg gains!
I had it tuned by Jesse bubb @ wait4meperformance in Ohio.

My duramax 6.6 was tuned last year by Idaho Rob @ atp trucks I've never been happier with the towing performance.
