f150 enough?

hey guys, I'm a new subscriber and had a question. I'm looking into a 19rr,and am trying to use the weight calculator that you was listed in the changing gears website. I have a 2011 f-150 longbed with a 5 liter and plan on taking my streetglide(882#s),and I would like to get a propride hitch. The calc. says that I can safely tow around 5482#s,which would leave me about 400#s for "other" .Is there any thing that I can do? Or look for another tow vehicle? thanks, Jim

you need to provide more info on your truck.
Like rear end ratio, payload capacity from door sticker, cab size, factory tow packages or not, etc.

no tow package would be my concern. Lacking things that are a must, like a trans cooler most likely

according to the 2011 Ford towing guide, you have either 7900 or 8400lbs. towing capacity, IF you have the factory tow package:

https://www.fleet.ford.com/resources...ng%20Guide.pdf

you would have to duplicate the package to be able to tow that amount or even the 5482 amount you're talking about. this includes wiring for brake controller, 7-pin trailer wiring connection, trans cooler, type III/IV hitch receiver are some of the must-haves.
also, you'll definitely need a WDH with sway control, along with a good brake controller.

You should look at another vehicle with a tow package. You will not be able to increase your towing or weight capacity without spending $$$.

I have an older 1997 F150 Super Cab, 4.6 engine, 4WD, tow package, Reese WDH with anti-sway bar. Before I installed the hitch I was rated at 6700 to 6900 lbs. The WDH added to my towing capacity. I have an auto tranny with the electronic overdrive controlled by a button on the end of the gear selector. There are times I would not venture into some of the wilder places we have taken our TT without the 4WD. I also bought the beefiest shocks Monroe sell. All these things make a difference. My buddy has a two year old F250 monster truck with everything he could add on it.

We went to a remote place with about a 25% grade on a driveway about 1,000 feet long. The one thing he doesn't have is 4WD. His truck would not pull his TT up that steep grade. We pulled out back onto the street and I hooked up to his TT, put it in 4WD, and easily pulled the trailer up the incline.

Unless you want to upgrade to the equivalent of the tow package, and a good WDH, shocks, etc, I highly recommend shopping for a different TV.
