F150 Trailer tow mirrors dimensions and effectiveness
I am thinking about switching to some aftermarket extendable tow mirrors which are now on the market for the 2015 and after F150. I am just not sure how much difference it will make. Can someone please measure and post the distance from the window to the outside edge of the mirror in both the retracted and extended positions?
Also, for an 8 foot wide trailer being towed by a 2016 F150 with factory tow mirrors can you see all the way down the side of the trailer? I like to really keep an eye on things.
Thanks

I think he is really asking for empirical data. Your right he can get the measurements but I think he wants to hear from others who have tow mirrors and how much does it improve his rear view.
I towed a 30' TT with a F150. I did not have factory tow mirrors but I bought an aftermarket mirror that slipped onto my existing mirror ( https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Towi...id=20164034199 ). Made a big difference especially on the passenger side. I was able to see down the side and beyond the trailer quite a distance.
I now have a F250 with retractable tow mirrors. Love them. Not onlt for rear and side view but I can adjust viewing angles to inspect from my TV rear wheels to the top sides of my 5th wheel. Worth having IMHO..

My F250 is equipped with extentable tow mirrors from factory.
You have a clear view of the sides of the trailer when extended.
As for measurements, I have no idea...I would say they extend an extra 3-4" each sides.maybe less.

I bought the slip on CIPA mirrors much like the type the previous poster provided a link to. The CIPA mirrors can be found at Etrailer also.
https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Towi...A/CM11400.html
They are great and worth every penny. Nice and tight in that I adjusted them once and never had to readjust even though I only have them on when towing so I have them on and off 6 or so times a year. Vibration free also. I'm sure all slip on mirrors work great, just don't go cheap with the strap on type as they are not worth all the effort. CIPA sent me a set of strap on mirrors at cost while I waited for them to design slip on mirrors for my 2014 Silverado. While better than nothing they are very bad compared to slip on type.

OK to clarify my post so some people are not so crabby
OP here. I was referring to the extendable type that you can get from Ford. There are now aftermarket companies making them so you do not have the pay something like $1200 from Ford. They appear to be the same size as the OEM mirrors and are now available in power, heated, auto-dimming etc. using the 8 pin connector, just like factory.

I currently use clip on CIPA type which are OK but a bit shaky and one actually flew off so I am aware that there are tons of options here but the OEM are the only ones I would consider "extendable".

We also have a F150 towing a 23ikss. We bought the snap&zap mirrors by KSourse on Amazon. We couldn't be happier. they are easy to put on and take off. they come with a bag that keeps the mirrors separated so they don't scratch each other. There is no vibration or shake while we are driving. It is an extra 4" and really helped seeing while driving.

There are only 2 manufactures of tow mirrors for the new f150's. Ford and Syppo and the dimensions are the same.

on my 2011 Ford hauling the 27RKSS Salem we used the clip on units made by CIPA and only had teh issue of people stealing the clips that hold them in place
on my 2013 Ford F150 I purchased the Ford tow power mirrors the day we bought the truck and installed them myself.
on our 2016 Ford F150 it came from the factory custom ordered with tow mirrors.
that being stated there are several ways to go
Fit System 81850 Snap On Tow Mirror Pair For 2015-2017 Ford F-150 New Free Ship | eBay
or
15-16 Ford F150 Pickup Towing Power Heated Turn Signal Mirrors Set Pair | eBay
both options above will work.
i now haul a 34 foot 5th wheel and a 29 foot toy hauler tag along and can see down both sides.
At what width does your vehicle and trailer become a wide load and you need spotter vehicles? Don't answer that because you are not there...

I got the CIPA mirrors from etrailer to help with towing my Flagstaff 30WRLIKS travel trailer and they work perfectly. They slip over the existing mirrors, and have cut-outs for the mirror-mounted signal lights. No vibration. The mirrors are adjustable, and I have found them to be excellent. I also got the Furrion full-time RF rear camera that mounts on the back of the V-lite, and that has made a huge positive difference in terms of my anxiety level regarding what's behind me!
For those who advised me regarding tires, WDH's and airbags, I now have LT tires on the 150 and wow, what a difference! Thanks so much!

I purchased the cipa slip on mirrors. They work great. When I ordered my truck I wanted regular small electronic folding with signal indicators. I live in a small town and want to be able to fold mirrors with a push of a button. The large mirrors had manual fold only.

Go too reesehitches.com and search for mirrors. I have a 2009 F150 Lariat, and you can get these at Walmart for about $35. They've worked good for me and are cheap to replace.

I also have the CIPA mirrors (#11800 for Ford F150 2004-2014) purchased online from WM. Perfect fit. Slip on and tighten up great with no vibration. Can see down both side of TT from tires up. Even had a guy clip the one on the drivers sides at about 20mph and it slammed back against the drivers window but no damage done. Didn't even have to readjust it.

don't know about 2015 f-150s, but for our 08, no aftermarket mirror was acceptable to us -- by doing a bunch of research/reading online, we found a ford dealer half-way across the country ford mirrors for about $135 each; these mirrors were NOT listed for our f150 model, but mounting and wiring matched for direct subbing -- the mirrors have split fields: the top 2/3rds, a remote-controlled standard glass; the bottom third, manual adjust convex lens -- that convex lens is a great life saver! -- btw: the price was honored by our local dealer --
my suggestion: start looking at forum sites strictly for f150 people -- that is where you will find a multitude of photos, ideas, experiences etc to help spend your cash wisely -- f150forum.com, ford-trucks.com/forums/, and many more, recommended -- good luck

We have a 2012 Ford F-150. We ordered it with the trailer towing mirrors. We love them. We can see all the way down the sides of the trailer when they are extended. We have to manually extend and retract them, but it's easy to do. When pushed in, it is 9 inches from the cab to the inner side of the mirror (measured in the front at the middle of the mirror). When extended, it is 12 1/2 inches. The mirrors extend 3 1/2 inches. Our mirrors measure roughly 12 inches tall by 9 inches wide. This includes the regular mirror and the convex one.

kanga, I guess everyone missed this post from you as you have now several pages of responses on CIPA mirrors or other slip on type mirrors. I can't help with your measurements and I have already posted as to how well the electric extendable mirrors work for me. Maybe this response will refocus your thread that has been hijacked by slip on mirrors..
