Great mileage! I thought I was doing well! FX4 with 3.73's; 17 city, 20.5 highway, 11 towing at 60 mph. Yes, you have to stay out of the turbo's. Making big power costs money.

I would take a good hard look at the F150 HD payload package. The payloads are unbelievable. And honestly, the 3.5 Eco is better for towing than the 6.2 because of the torque and the rpm at which it is delivered.

And the new aluminum F150 has even higher payloads than the 2014 steel truck.

Zero issues of any kind with my 2012 with 50K miles on it.

I like the f150 EB FX4 and yes the mileage has not been what they quote but rarely are they ever unless down hill with 100km hr winds... It pulls great for us and I was in the smokies two years ago no issues what so ever. Here is what I say when someone ask me about what truck and how is the gas. Have yet to see a truck great on gas. If your worried about gas mileage buy a car and stay in a motel. Get the F150 EB fx 4, 3.73 rear end and as someone said earlier upgrade when/if you need to in fours years. Trucks are changing so fast every year who knows what 4 years will bring.

I have a Starcraft AR- one 16 bh. Upgrading to a 21fbrs. Have towed with F 150s. Ext cab Stx 6, King Ranch Eco, and finally Reg. CabXLT 5.0 with a 6.5 bed. 5.0 towed the best. 355 gear. Gas mileage was between 11-13 with all three trucks on a 650 mile round trip tow

I got to be honest the 2014 F-150 XLT 5.0 reg cab. Is the best for my needs.

This is an old thread, but still very relevant for those considering the F150 EB...
My TV is also my daily driver so my original plan was to trade-in my '11 Ram 2500 w/5.7 Hemi for a F150 EB w/HD package which, in theory, would provide a higher GCVW combined with better mpg for my daily commute. However, the EB owners I have talked to aren't getting anywhere near the mpg Ford claims & I already average 16-17mpg on my daily commute & 9-10 mpg towing... And this is driving fairly aggressively when commuting...

I'm sure in ideal test conditions, the EB will get the mileage Ford claims but my (mostly highway) daily commute is in heavy traffic & I often have to accelerate quickly to safely merge into traffic which includes quickly moving-over (4) lanes & nabbing an off ramp from the left lane... With my 4 cyl. Accord I sometimes could not accelerate quickly enough to get in the gaps to make all of the lane changes - which meant hitting the next exit & doubling back... Not so with the 2500... Folks get out of the way when I pass them, put my turn signal on, and start merging over! If I had an EB I would be putting those turbos to good use & getting about the same mileage I get now...

^^^ Yep, it is true. The EB gets great mileage if you drive it like a normally aspirated V6. I have several tanks of over 700 miles with an average of 21 mpg. But it is also a very powerful engine and there is no free lunch. Dip heavily and regularly into the turbos and it will use fuel to produce that power.

Hello, I agree with your statement totally. Laying off the gas pedal and being a polite drive I am getting about 20 - 21 mpg. Enjoying the power knocks it down.

Interesting thread as I am considering an upgrade to the F150 EB next year to replace my TV. As suggested I am "looking ahead" to my next RV, be it a TT or 5ver, and the F150 EB absolutely KILLS my current TV in all vital towing stats......

A few years ago I thought they were crazy to label 9,000 lb. TTs & 5ers "Half Ton Towable". Then Ford introduced the F150 EB w/HD option which has been a game changer. IMO it led to Ram placing rear springs on their 2500s so that the ride would be more comparable to a 1/2 ton. Ram is also keeping their pricing on 2500s near EB territory. Lots of good choices.


IMO you can't go wrong with any of the 3/4 tons provided the options & price are right. However, the F150 EB is hands-down the best 1/2 ton available - whether you need the HD/tow package or not. It's just a little pricey right now due to demand... They are not even reducing the '14's much even though the '15's have many updates like aluminum, etc.

I wish I were as "lucky" as some of those here; IF I am lucky, I see 18-mpg (downhill with a tailwind) on my FX4 (3.55 rear). Post tune of my truck though, I am elated to see 17 mpg! Before that it was 13 city, 15 highway... on a good day. The EB is a great motor. But after having one in a ford Edge, then an F150... don't' believe the MPG hype. On the other hand and the simple fact the question is asked here, MPG's really shouldn't matter. The ability to do the task at hand is the primary question. And well, the EB can certainly pull like no ones business. Pick the best tool for the job.

I was about 13 city/18 highway with the 3.73 gears. Overall average on the truck over 28k miles was 13.6

Pulling headwind last summer Ottawa to Kincardine I got 9 mpg. The truck just went no matter how wind was being cut. I had a 5.4 and the the Eco. Hands down it is a workshorse.

With the new 2015 F150 EB and 12,200 tow capacity a F250 capacity us getting pretty close.

you ought to try it in a 3/4 4x4 crew cab diesel and a zo6 pulls up next to you, or any car for that matter.. my truck will take any factory zo6 out to about 100ft. 4 wheel traction really puts the hurt on them
