Never happened. My wife and I have 46 years combined at Ford dealers. We would have seen it. Besides, the purpose of a dually is to have higher GVWR, not to falsify your registration.

Sounds like you have the right scenario to justify diesels in your application. We have 21, 6.7L currently in service. Fourteen of those are F-550 ambulances and the rest are service trucks that tow often. The service trucks average 10 MPG.

We towed 11,000 lbs 5er and got from 9.5 to 11 miles per gallon highway. Empty we get from 18 to 21 miles per gallon on the highway and between 13 and 16 around town. We have 2015 F350 PSD SRW.
We have upgraded 5er to 14,000 and couple short trips we got about the same millage.

I get a solid 13 mpg pulling my 14,000 lbs on the highway between 65-70 miles per hour.
Love my Diesel.

Just for comparison - I have a 2013 3/4 ton Chevy crew cab with a 6.0L gas motor with about 68K on it. I pull a 34 ft V Nose that is between 8500 and 9000 depending on how much stuff I have in it. I get between 8-9 mpg on average. When just driving my truck on the highway I average about 12-13 mpg.

F250 with 1309 miles left NC to FL. Miles towing 750 each way. Never knew the 5er was there with the diesel. Mileage going down was 11.8 coming home had a headwind 10.0. No hills and 11,000# at 65 mph mostly

Olson, is that a calculated mpg? or is that number from the lieometer?

My 2012 F-350 king ranch long bed crew cab dually gets, on average 10.5 to 11.5 (hand calculated) pulling my 41' 5er, weighing 19,000lb. loaded. With no camper, about 16 city, 19 highway. One thing to consider is the driver. If you haven't driven a diesel much, your mileage will be lower. You have got to learn to keep your foot out of it, and let the torque work for you. Applies accross the board, but maybe more so with drivers that do not own the truck.
One of the first things I did, was to put a Titan 65 gallon tank under the bed. It replaces the stock tank. Gives you extra time to find a truck stop when towing long distance.

I am not towing the weights others are , but my 2012 6.7 gets 14-15 towing a Windjammer ( around 7000lbs ) and can get 21 mpg when empty. Tons of torque and does not run the high rpm range of gassers. Diesel is pricey but I love mine.

I pull a 35 ft 5th wheel with a 2014 6.7 diesel F250. Including a 800 pound motorcycle, I am pulling about 13,000!pounds. When asked about mileage, I always say at what speed. On the highways in Texas especially out west, there are 75 and 80 mph speed limits When I drive 65, I can get about 10 or a little better. However, if I drive 75 or 80, I get about 7 to 8 mph. I have learned to slow down. I do like that the truck pulls the weight at any speed with ease.

I don't have a duelly but I do have an F250 diesel with the 6.7L. I tow a 7500# trailer. My true mileage towing ranges between 12 and 14 depending on speed and terrain. I got a very good price on a fleet type vehicle. It was no more than a gasser with bells and whistles. So I guess it depends on where you want to spend the money....bells and whistles or a diesel. I'll take the diesel. I'm too old to learn how to use most of the gadgets they have on cars nowadays anyhow. I love the power of the diesel. The Ford installed brake controller is the best in the business. Ask anyone who has one.

I confess I did not read all the posts. I have 2002 F250 V10 gas. Trailer is about 12,000 lbs. I get about 13mpg empty about 6mpg when pulling the trailer. Does great on flat terrain, going uphill a completely different story. I got a great deal on the truck so that is why I bought it. I keep it because most of our trips at the moment are once a month and less than 100 miles each way. A few years from now when I retire (I hope), I will be looking for a diesel.

2005 F250 6.0 Diesel 4x4, 2007 Surveyor SV290, 12 on the road pulling it. ~15 city/country, 18 hwy. Not too bad, better than the chevy. (I did love my chevy and still miss it)
Had a '99 Silverado 5.3l gasser, 6 on the road with the surveyor and tranny was busy all the time. The high revs always made me white knuckled. Had it 13 years, hated to see it go.
There is nothing like a diesel for pulling. It's more expensive, but that's their purpose in life.

I normally see 14-16 (hand calc'd) not towing. I don't have one of the magic 6.7 duallies that can get 18 mpg..............and really doubt they exist. My truck is a driveway queen, under 17,000 miles in 3 years, so I rarely run it unloaded for an entire tank in one scenario (city or highway) without a trailer.

350 SRW vs 450 DRW
Pulled my 14,400 lbs (weighed on Cat scale) fifth wheel with 2011 F350 SRW with 3.55 rear axle. Flat ground milage was 11.5, Ohio to TN on i75 always netted 10.5.
Same fifth wheel with f450 drw, 4.30 rear axle. Towing milage is identical to the f350 at 65 mph. Big difference though in unloaded milage though. F350 was consistent at 19 mpg on flat ground while the f450 best has been 15.7 this week in FL.
Both were able to maintain 65mph uphill in northern TN on I75. The only reason I changed to the 450 was the 3600 lbs. of pin weight on the rear axle.
You should have no issues with 10,000 lbs and diesel f250.

I keep detailed records. Over 25 fill-ups and 4,200 miles I am getting 12.5 mpg. I am pulling a 35' fifth wheel. This includes a trip from Indiana to the Black Hills, Yellowstone, and Estes Park Colorado.
