Thats all? Thought maybe they limited movement more something. My last sliding bar hitch was spring loaded with a catch that trips when the king pin hits it and slams the hitch closed. The one I have now you have to get out and close manually but it's not a big deal. I always check anyway.

The new hitch head is supposed to be in today. Still not interested in causing any problems with manufacturer and dealer until I get things resolved.

I'm not real happy with having to deal with this issue on my own. In my opinion, the dealer should of been more involved with getting this issue resolved between all involved parties. I don't appreciate being abandoned.

I will have plenty to say when I get home on the 25th or maybe sooner. You can bet your ass I will be posting the dealer's name and the manufacturer. I used to work for the dealer when he was a large ford dealership in the mid-70s, including a personal friendship with him and his wife. He doesn't like in his face complaints and he will get one from me.

Meanwhile, I am dealing with a great RV dealership in Florence, OR, Country Road RV. They have been awesome in helping me. It's now sit and wait for Country Road to call when the part comes in.

I understand your hesitancy to "name names" but one thought to consider.....
Its probably safe to say there are many others out there towing with this exact setup....if they knew there was even an isolated problem then they would "triplecheck" everything before they hit the road. No one is asking you to badmouth the brand, but knowing it may save someone else a bad day, damaged equipment ...or worse.
Be safe

Well stated. I was thinking the same. It would indeed be sad if a similar incident occurs and could have been prevented. I would hate to think of a 5th wheel breaking free at highway speeds.

I received the replacement hitch head from the manufacturer, Pullrite. It's a 20K super model. I am supposed to send the failed head back, but can't get the release bar off to pack it, due to the jaws being locked in the open position. It will have wait until I get home to use tools I didn't bring and I brought a lot of tools.

The replacement head only took a few minutes to replace, then hooked up and drove 60 miles, parked and unhooked. Every little noise caught my attention. This new hitch latches and releases much different than the other one, even the wife noticed, thinking the failed hitch was defective since day one.

We will take off again to our next destination in a few hours, hope it all goes good.

Good to know the manufacturer stood up and replaced the hitch. I am a Reese guy as many of these brands are not available in Canada

This is one thing I never worry about because the Pullrite system does not use "jaws". There is a claw that goes completely around the pin when the hitch is closed.

I just need to peek at the pin when I close the tailgate to be sure the pin will never come out.
