Fifth Wheel Hitch

I am looking at upgrading my fifth wheel hitch. I currently have a Dodge 1 ton pulling a Silverback 33 IK. When I bought the fifth wheel they put in the hitch with the deal. The hitch is a pro series 15k non slider sitting on bed rails. The slide bar type of hitch has to much play for my liking. Looking at the B&W Patriot 16k slider hitch or the Curt Q 24 slider hitch. The Curt is on sale right now cheaper than the B&W and is a lot more hitch for the money. What are ya'll running with and how do you like them. Anything will be better than the cheapie that came with the trailer. Thanks for you input..

Kinda leaning towards the Curt Q24 for the double locking jaws and reputation from other people.

I think that your choice of upgrading your hitch from the pro series 15K is a very good idea. A couple of years ago with that hitch and my old 5er the hitch broke on OK 69 when we were heading south for the winter. We hit a dip in the road with a large pot hole at the bottom and the 5er came right out of the hitch. It bent the hitch head up and pushed the bar forward enough to allow the king pin to pop right out. Did thousands of $ damage to my truck smashed the bed rails and bent the tale gate real bad. But it sat right down on the truck and I was able to stop safely. I called Reese about it but they blew me off. And yes i was sure everything was hooked up properly and it was not overloaded.

B&W is American made and very sturdy. Love mine.

Previous rig was a 16,000 pound TH. I was very happy with a Pullrite Super 5th (non-slider rated for 20,500 pounds). The jaw wraps around the pin and the latch mechanism is very secure. Never any doubt whether it had really latched as it is spring loaded and latches with a significant bang. When removed from the truck there were 4 small (2") holes in the bed floor that I plugged with plumbers plugs.

The jaws on that B&W look manly compared to the curt hitch. I have the companion and I like how simple the mechanism operates. I have a short box and have had no reason thus far for a slider. There's a lot of "I'd rather have one and not need it than to not have one and need it" but I'm more into the "I'm not paying for something I won't use" crowd. A fixed hitch will save you some bucks and some weight.

X2 on the Pullrite. I really like it. No doubt about it being hooked up! I like the auto slider and have needed it and used it several times in some tight state parks. I'm pulling a 2013 36' Sabre 5'er at around 12,000lbs with a 2011 Ram Cummins Laramie.

I just purchased a B&W companion to go into the Factory Dodge Pucks, it was highly recommended by my friend the Leonard Truck accessories dealer in the 24K variant for my new Trilogy. The hitch shop at the RV dealership loved it, and I love not having the SLOP of my old Reese Pro 16K hitch. The B&W has a beefy 1 inch thick set of jaws that wrap securely around the KingPin, and there is no more play that I had in my previous setup. I just wish I had bought this one FIRST! The hardware package had parts missing from the store that the hitch came from, and I contacted B&W, they sent me a new hardware package by next day air, even though it was not their fault! Pulling 3 trips so far with the new setup, rates as WONDERFUL.

X3 on Pullrite slider...have 8' box and carry scooter on platform on bed rails behind cab...solid hitch and gives me more turning radius .

I'd love to see pictures of your setup. That sounds pretty cool.

B&W hitch owner. I went for their Turnoverball and Companion to avoid rails and to have a clean bed when the hitch is removed. But it sounds like the OP has rails already.

we have a curt q24 on our silverado 3500 dually. pulls our new trilogy 38wt with no problems . it hitches and unhitches really well unlike the last reese hitch that we had. i know the q24 is bigger than we need but feel like it was a safer choice with the size on our unit.

I have the same hitch as you. It's a fantastic hitch and very well engineered. It's assembled here in the good ol' USA but made in China (according to Curt).

Thank Ya'll for all the feedback. I really learn a lot from all of you on the forum. I am going to pull the trigger on the curt slider while its on sale. Wire 1946 I have a Dodge 3500 CC short box just a couple hundred bucks more, the old phrase better to have it and not need it than the other way around.
