Fifth Wheel Hitch Lock

I have a 2014 Ford F250 with fifth wheel prep. Planning to get the Reese Elite Fifth Wheel Hitch. The lynch pins that keep the hitch secured to the bed of the truck are very small and somewhat easily removed. Does anyone have a locking mechanism for these pins? It looks too small for a pad lock. I'm concerned that someone could easily steal the hitch.

I know what you're talking about. I have the fifth wheel prep package on a 2013 F250 and a Reese Elite 18K slider hitch. I keep a tonneau cover on my truck so am not too concerned about theft, but if I were to lock it I might use a gun lock. There are those that are on a cable wire and designed to thread through the finger guards. That's one idea. Good luck.

Fabricated one using a regular padlock.

I have the B&W 3300 hitch on my F250 with the prep package. The puck handles come together to allow a lock through the holes if you want. I love my hitch, since it is in 2 parts it's easy to put on or take off, and I can do it by myself.

That is the link to the hitch. They place that needs to be locked is at the bottom/middle.

There are padlocks that will fit fine. They are small enough to get through, but snug enough to keep it from moving more then necessary. I can move them around to unlock when necessary. Much better than the pins.

I just use the standard hitch pin and lock to secure mine to the bed

Thanks Cowboy, glad to see the opening is big enough for a padlock. That eases my mind. By the way, I hope that snow isn't an accessory to the hitch.

First off,,, you can't "easily steal a hitch". Especially a fifth wheel hitch. If you don't want somebody looking for 100 pounds of scrap metal stealing your hitch, leave the factory pins in, cover the bottom of the hitch with grease, then every time you go camping, right after breakfast, dump your bacon grease in the bed of your truck, it will be nice and slippery.

Lets see who can lift that fiver hitch and not fall !!

If your that worried, sleep out in your driveway with a can of Hornet spray and when the bad guys come to take your hitch, spray em the eyes.

LOL! For me it wasn't about someone stealing the whole hitch, but perhaps some mischievous person pulling the pins out and then the anchors "working their way out of the locked position". That could bring some unanticipated havoc during a trip. This prevents that unless someone brings bolt cutters. But if they do, they aren't after the pins......

This is what I use. Plus on the main pivot pin I use a long Hasps Master Lock.

I also use a large C clamp on the two cross beams that the pivot hitch main pin attaches to. I tighten the C clamp until I just can move the hitch left and right. This takes some of the slack out of extra movement in the hitch.

Drilled holes into the pins, purchased four small locks that fit the holds, all are keyed alike. If someone takes the time to un-lock four locks, then they have the hitch. This is the only way I know to stop a thief.

That's why I padlock one leg and have insurance. If they want it, let'em have it. MetLife will buy me a new one.

No problem. BTW, I love the Reese Elite hitch. Had to pickup some lumber one day and forgot to take the hitch out. When I pulled it and moved it out of the way in about 2 minutes, the guys helping me load up were amazed....

As far as the snow, well let's just call it a little early surprise. We had about 2 inches of snow today and hopefully it will be gone by the weekend. I don't even have the blade on my tractor yet......
