Fifth wheel overhang height - Rockwood Signature Ultralite

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone could possibly confirm the height of the overhang on the fifth wheel, for clearance over the truck bed sides.

I'm going to be picking up the fifth in my signature next weekend, but my paranoia is just wanting to double check the clearance over the truck bed sides, before installing the hitch tonight.

Unfortunately I can't go measure it myself since it's at the dealers off-site storage facility, not at the dealership main site, until it's ready for pickup

5+ inches is good. 6+ is better. It will depend on where the hitch is set in the truck. It should have adjustments on it.

I know how much clearance I need, I just need to know the height of the fifth wheel overhang from the ground to check if I have enough clearance (since I can measure the height of the bed rails).

btw, the front of my bed is at 54.5"above ground, and the back is at 56", when the truck is unladen

The bed rails on my truck are 49" above the ground. I have about 8 inches between my truck and my 2015 Rockwood Signature Ultralite 8280WS. I would answer your question directly, but I don't have my trailer hooked up to the truck, and it's parked on sloping ground. Hope that helps.

Which truck? F150 with stock tires yields about 5 inches fully loaded. With axle lift kit I had 6 inches. F250 with stock tires I have 7 to 8 inches.

2016 F-250 4x4 with the standard 18" wheels/tires from the chrome package.
The bed height is an inch higher than the current F150 or the 4x2 F250. (at 35")

Seems strange that your clearance on the F250 would be more than the F150, when the F250 is bigger

Hard to see but here is mine. 60". Not hooked up to truck. Sitting level in my driveway. Rockwood 8282.

That seems a little scary Since I'm getting the similar, but slightly heavier, 8281WS and unladen my bed rails are 7" higher than yours at the back.
What truck is that ?

That's to the bottom of the overhang, right ?

With my truck unladen I'd have only 4" clearance, but since I suspect it should drop at least 2" I should have 6" clear, which folks have said should be ok :-)

I have a lower truck bed to top of rail measurement than the F 150 by 2 inches possibly 3. My trailer has a lift kit and tows level. I still have 2 holes to drop the Reese Elite hitch of required. I know my generator used to fit under the tonneau cover, now it sits 3 inches too tall. I wish I had a picture hitched up to show you. My f 250 us 4 x4 with camper package and extra leafs and overloads as well. Rides like a champ. I don't think I would worry till you get it hitched up. I only had 4 inches on the F 150 prior to getting the lift kit on the trailer i ended up with 6 inches.

I was sitting side by each when measuring unloaded, I could not believe how much higher the F 150 was.

Yes. This picture is at the right front of the overhanging bedroom. Keep in mind that as your truck "sinks" the fiver goes down with it so you likely will not gain 2". Most likely, like many of us, your hitch will be set higher to give clearance. The fiver may tow higher in the front and not exactly level. Better to have the clearance than level. It can be adjusted so you'll be good. And, you'll love the rockwood.

Height will still depend on your hitch in the truck. Mine has something like 4~6 inches of adjustment. There is also adjustment in the king pin if needed to get camper level when hooked up. You may have to adjust after you get the camper to get everything correct.

Does it matter? It depends on whether it is level or not. You'll have to extend the front jacks anyway to hook it to the hitch plate. You will need to adjust the height of the hitch in the truck bed... It will all work out if the hitch is properly set in the truck bed. Good luck!

What truck is that ?

The truck I'm referring to, the one I have been pulling my 8280WS with, is a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. My new truck, one that has yet to be used and has no hitch yet, is a 2015 Ford F-250 4X4 also with the standard 18" wheels/tires from the chrome package. The bed rail height, as measured from the center of the bed is 55".

I am on an F-350 with 20 inch wheels. I have 56 inches front bed rail height, 57 inches rear bed rail height and 9 inches of clearance between the rails and the rig.

Thought I'd post an update for anyone interested ...

I picked up the fifth wheel yesterday, having guessed at the hitch height adjustment (1 notch down from highest on the Reese Titan 16K)

It's towing nice and level, with plenty of clearance (haven't measured yet, but I'd guess it's way over 6", probably 8")
Haven't checked the level of the truck yet, so not sure if the truck is now lower at the back, rather than higher, but I'm guessing it dropped at least a couple of inches, maybe more.

So far so good. I'll post when I've had a chance to measure the clearance (probably end of the week)
