Firestone Ride Rite Air Bag Add-on
I just installed the Firestone Ride Rite Air Bags on my 2012 GMC 2500HD....I think I now would like to add the onboard air compressor kit with control switch for under the dash so I can control air pressure from inside the truck....for those who have done this, where is a good place to mount the compressor...looking for suggestions that have worked best for everyone...thanks.

Are you talking about the switch & gauge at the bottom of the dash.....I'm looking for a place to mount the air compressor....You have your air compressor under your dash???....Maybe I've misunderstood you....I don't want it inside the truck because of noise.

You will love them, put set on Ford F-350 pulling 36CKTS and it really helps level out TV and RV.

Thanks for your response....my problem is I have two batteries on my 2500HD diesel and that place you're talking about is taken up by the second battery....I was hoping to locate it somewhere under the hood though.

Nothing against you Ford guys but I hoping for someone with a Chevy or GMC 2500 or 3500HD has done this and will let me know where they put the compressor.....I don't want it inside the truck....btw, where did you put it on the Ford?

I have the Air-Lift air bag system on my 2011 Chevy 1500 and it should be very similar to your system. I mounted my pump under the frame below the passenger side door. Just took a flat piece of metal [late and bolted it to the frame then bolted the pump to the plate. Has been there for 4 years already and no problems with it. Here are some pics of it.

I never put the compressor unit on, I ran the hose to back of truck and use a small battery compressor and gauge. It really is no problem, once you find your sweet spot.

Thanks for the idea....if yours has been there for 4 years then water must not be an issue.....I'm concerned that I'm far enough north and with some of our winters, we have salt on roadways during ice and snow...don't know how the salt spraying up in that area would play out....btw, I guess you could take yours down to the Gulf and drive thru the salt water and let me know....lol.

FYI
Just me but you might want to consider a wireless control unit, I clip the control box to my sun visor. Very easy to monitor. Unit is outstanding on my 2015 3500HD GMC

That's what I'm doing now....but, I've ordered the onboard compressor with switch and gauge so adjustments can be made on the fly, either up or down, depending on your ride....might not use it much like that but it's ordered and now I've got to find the best way to mount everything.

Not sure about the salt, its like anything it can rust items out, but im down on the coast, heavy salt air all of the time, plus the beach salt, ocean salt, I launch my boat in salt water, we have heavy flooding that I drive thru along with mud, dust, dirt and tall brush at the ranch and have not had any problems with it so far.
It is noisy when it goes off, dont know of anyplace you can mount it that you wont hear it. When first filling up from 5-70 lbs it can take a while, it will go off just about every time you start your vehicle to do a slight adjustment to the bags for about 20 seconds.

Not familiar with the wireless....Where's the air compressor mounted on your 3500HD?

I also have the onboard wireless control that allows me to adjust up or down at anytime, really nice to do as it allows you to find just the right ride level to make it ride smoothly.

Thanks for your response....yours looks like it gets put through some rough conditions under there.....yeah, I knew it was going to be noisy....might end up doing what you've done and mount on the underneath frame....again, thanks.

Sorry I got confused, my compressor was mounted on the frame, I did not install it. I paid someone else to do that

I concur with Forbes. I air up the ride - rites and leave them. I use a Cycle Pump air compressor. Handy for quadding and camping.
