I have been a member since Nov 07, when I purchased a 08 new and this is the best site on the internet for the Ram Cummins equipped truck.
Do you know what is the difference between the Turbo Diesel Register forum and Diesel truck Resource forum? They seem very similar. I've been thinking about joining one of them so I am curious what you think.

Basically the same. Both are good. Just as with this forum take some of what you read with a grain of salt.

Watch for the ones with 40+" tires, pulling sleds or drag racing and then bad mouthing Dodge transmissions etc.

The fill is there indeed. First time was a bit of a pain, but you get used to it. Yeah, I'm still grinnin' too!

I have not put a drop of diesel fuel in my F250 without Lucas fuel treatment to keep the injectors clean. I recommend that along with changing the fuel filters every 15,000 miles.

Diesel Vs. Gas are totally different

In my earlier days, I was the Cummins Corporate National Sales and Marketing Mgr. for the launch and next 4 years of the Cummins 6BT- 5.9L engine in Dodge Ram pickups.

One of our major issues was trying to train customers , sales people and mechanics on how to take care of diesels in automotive applications.
My recommendation is to read the manual carefully and check out sites like the " Cummins Turbo Diesel Registry " for the real facts on Cummins diesels.

I am currently looking at the new NIssan Titan XD with the Cummins 2 stage Holset turbo.

Good Luck & I Know you will love it.

Just be aware that DieselStop is basically a ford forum. Good forum, just Ford.

Not sure about cummins diesel but after replacing the egr cooler at 50k miles I found out that idle time on the 2011 Ford Powerstroke is to be kept to a minimum. Since I have heard from numerous ford mechanics warning about idle hours. Now have a new Duramax and mechanics say nothing about this. The suggestions about getting some mechanic time is a good one along with the forums.

X2!!!!!! The color of the pump handle is NOT a good way to know you are pumping diesel. We have seen green, yellow, and black. Once we pumped 30 gallons of regular gasoline into the diesel truck. Very fortunately, DW noticed before we got back into the cab to try and drive away. The station said it happens frequently at their station, and handed us a business card of someone who knew how to remedy the situation. In less than 30 minutes, they arrived with a van, and inside the van was a food quality 55 gallon drum marked every 5 gallons, and an electric pump and hose. They fed the hose down the filler pipe and sucked out all 38 gallons that was in the tank. We dumped 5 fresh gallons of diesel in from a container and drove to the diesel pump, filled up, and drove on. They charged about $50 and kept the fuel which they planned to separate and use. They also brought two bottles of Motocraft diesel fuel conditioner. We used one full bottle on the first fill, and half the next bottle on the next two fillings. Truck never missed a beat, and has 98,000 miles on it now. Needless to say, this was an expensive refueling stop.

My advice is to keep on hand a extra fuel filter while traveling along with the tools to change it.If a fuel stop looks dirty the fuel can be as well, drove a 7.3 powerstroke for UPS that had over 500,000 when I retired. My 2005 Duramax fuel filters a peace of cake to change even on the road.Good luck and have fun !

when I fueled up that "Green Handle is Diesel".
NO IT ISN'T!!!! Not Always....Don't ask me how I know! 6' piece of hose and three hours later I was back on my way!

Up here in New England there are a number of stations that the green hose is gasoline!

Other than that....get some type of Turbo Timer...This is a very simple device that lets the engine run when you shut off the key until the turbo cools down to 250 degrees (you can usually set this)...The bearing is oil injected and if you are coming up a hill just before you shut off the engine, the turbo could be 1000 degrees or more. The oil will carbonize and shorten the life of the turbo. Extremely important. I have a "Juice With Attitude" on my truck. Besides giving you insane performance increase, you can read codes, set all kinds of alarm parameters, monitor every single temperature through out the engine, transmission and exhaust system.

Use very high quality synthetic oil and change oil and fuel filter at ever oil change.

I have a 2006 2500 Dodge Diesel with just about 200K and zero engine issues...Only thing I've replaced is AC Compressor, water pump, Radiator Fan Motor, Exhaust (cat back), Brake pads / rotors and tires. I use Shell Diesel Synthetic and change oil and filters every 10K miles.

Search "Gino's Garage" and get a copy of their catalog and join the Diesel Truck Resource Forum .....

Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums

The monthly magazine "Turbo Diesel Registry" is FANTASTIC for Dodge Diesel owners.

You're gonna love that truck!

Wait till you get the surprise DEF low warning on the dash. You will probably be towing. Try to find a place to pull over. Get your DEF and your funnel. Open the hood it is really hot under there. Put the funnel in the little fill spout and start filling. You will know when it's full. It will puke out the fill spout. The Ram trucks have a DEF gauge on the dash.

My certified diesel mechanic advised me to only buy fuel at high usage stations, replace all filters when changing oil, to clean up in the fuel filter housing before putting new filter in, and to use a good cetain booster/cleaner ever other full up.

You are getting 2016 Ram 3500 a great truck I have 2014 Ram 3500 DRW mega cab short bed My second Ram first was a 98.5 3500 DRW drove it for 17 years with no major problems. But in 2014 TX wreck totaled it so got the new one Unless you are pulling a super heavy trailer the stock truck is more than enough power, and if you have the right gear and tranny you don't need any addons. The one place you will learn the most about your Ram truck is TDR
http://www.turbodieselregister.com This is the place to learn all things Ram truck Cummins Diesel you can look at the form post all you want. But for $35 best you will spend You will get a really nice magazine quarterly and you can post any and all questions you may have and you will get the answered I've never been made to feel foolish there for being new. There are a lot of people on this site that do a lot of the work on their trucks themselves.

Oh, it's not that bad. I wait for the low DEF warning to show on the DIC, get a 2.5 gallon jug of Blue Def at Wally World, open the hood, set the container up there and pour it in. It's really a non event. If you don't try to overfill the Def tank, there's no mess.

I do one step further.
We have full service around here.
None of that " pre pay" crap.

I get out, and even though, they know me, and know what my truck takes, I say " fill diesel".

I then watch them pull the correct nozzle, push the diesel button.
Then I walk inside.

Society needs to take some more responsibility for our own actions.

It's not the gas guys fault, it's not the colour of the handle.

There's only one person responsible for our actions... Us....

NEVER pump gasoline into the fuel tank of a diesel-powered vehicle. As already mentioned, the "green handle" is NOT always diesel. Check CAREFULLY before the nozzle is put into the fill pipe! If the diesel is not your "daily driver", do not let it sit for extended periods (months) with biodiesel blend in the fuel tank if it can be at all avoided.
