First electric pickup
Looks like the first EV pickup is here. The Tesla Cybertruck. Claims include:
250-500 miles per charge
0-60 in 2.9 seconds
up to 14,000 lb. tow capacity
up to 3,500 lb. payload
bullet proof body
price: $40K - $70K depending on number of motors and options
As is usual for an EV, they make a big deal out of it's range but completely neglect how long it will take to fully recharge it. That 3-4 hour drive to your favorite campsite may end up taking 10-12 hours. Who knows? I'm sure that pulling 8 to10 thousand pounds will reduce any range numbers considerably.

That's not a truck.
Musk has made some cool cars. He clearly has no idea what wins in the truck market, why people buy trucks, or what a truck even is.

X2. I can't understand why car companies think their EV's have to look weird. That thing makes the Buick Rendezvous look good.
I'd also like to know what the range is while towing 14000 lbs at 65mph. I'm guessing about 75 miles.

Pickups do not need stealth technology (except for LEO radar), that thing looks like a F-117A..no thanks Tesla

Looks like a pickup John DeLorean would have made on back in the day. Just think, if it had a Flux Capacitor power plant as in the Back to the Future movie it would be the ultimate electric vehicle.

There are a lot of pickup truck would be owners that are exactly the same.
Ask a lot of current pickup truck owners why they have one, especially if it's 4WD, and many times the answer will be along the lines of "It's just so cool".
Most people won't carry anything bigger than a bag of fertilizer in their pickup and if a 4WD, the only "off roading" will be if they end up backing through the flowerbed alongside the driveway.
Chances are the only people he's aiming his truck business at are those who want something cool to show off to their golf buddies, not tow travel trailers.

"Weird designs" usually come from two factors that are being considered. First is range which requires minimum aerodynamic drag. Second is ability to fit in a driver and passengers that are larger than a 12 year old child.
FWIW, I have a Chevy Volt and often get compliments on how nice it looks. Plenty of room inside too for me and my 6'4" Son ------------- but the max size of passengers in the back seat is pretty much "a 12 year old". No big deal though because there is room for three long rifle hard cases along with plenty of ammo for a day at the range
As for range? Who knows. Will depend on the size of the battery(s) they incorporate into the design. The technology is rapidly progressing and who knows, they might even get a few hundered miles out of them before a charge is necessary. Might also have the ability to just plug into a 50 amp RV receptacle and recharge overnight. Probably not what boondockers would want to hear or those who like to travel 500-600 miles per day between campgrounds.
Range will be perfect for those who only carry a bag of fertilizer or their golf clubs though

Needs a sharper front end or it won’t defeat radar and laser speed guns.

What I think is funny is the media spin.. using terms like "polarizing design" as if to infer that someone other than salivating California Tesla fanboys actually like the design (for the record most of them were laughing during the demo).

Look at like this. With a grille like that owners wont have to clean feathers and guts out of the radiator if they hit a bird. No grille, no radiator.

Typical for bullet proof glass, keeps the round from penetrating but the glass does shatter.

Doesn't appear to be a truck. Appears that if you go 88 mph in it, you'll end up at next Tuesday.

First electric pickup!? What!? Rivian will beat this thing out by over 2 years, Bolinger by a year, Ford by a year, and I bet both Chevy and Ram by at least a few months. All of their designs also look great BTW. So first electric pickup wearing a dunce cap, I agree.

I can see two problems with this:
1. How many charging stations will be set up to accommodate a trailer?
2. People will use the campground power to recharge the truck, driving the campgrounds to start metering their sites to charge for electricity used. Thanks Elon.

I think we have a long way to go before people start using electric vehicles to tow anything.

You'd think old Elon would know that. He seemed quite surprised when the glass shattered.
