My Equalizer WDH always "snags" the ball after it is released but will not drop out when the TT is lifted. I found that I need to give the base of the hitch a solid thump so the TT and hitch separate. Last time I did this I realized I may need to carry a small sledge hammer for the task. But then wised up, I had the tool in my hand already, I just use the butt end of one of the bars. Works perfect and my fingers are nowhere near the hitch.

I'm a newbie also, I had to fight with my Equalizer WDH the first time I unhooked...
This is why I love this forum, get a lot of great tips and advise from seasoned folks...

I see that this thread involves the centerline hitch. A question for anyone who has this hitch with some miles on it. Does anyone else have the powder coat/paint material peeling off on the brackets on the hitch head that the bars slide into. Not the brackets on the trailer side but the ones on the head. Mine has pealed off like it had bad adhesion from the factory.

PS even with mileage on mine it does not get any easier to swing those spring bars out. OP glad you got her hooked back up. Has been a great hitch for me.

My paint came off in those areas early on. I just hit it with some rustoliem spray paint so they would not rust worked good for me.

Those bars will pivot to the side, Get out from under the trailer and move them out, then back up under the trailer tongue and hitch to the ball, once that is done use the tongue jack to raise the trailer AND tow vehicle until you are able to swing the bars over the pins and onto the L bracket using the tool furnished with the hitch. Secure the bars to the L bracket and retract the tongue jack. Attach the safety chains and plug in your electrical connection. Do a walk around inspection and you should be ready to go.
