First tow with Ecoboost

This is a much more relaxed tow than my previous 5.4L 4-speed F150. I like to tow in overdrive if at all possible. The 5.4 would pull overdrive but it didn't have much reserve capacity; not frequent shifting but it didn't take much of a grade to unlock the torque converter. The Eco held 6th gear and stayed locked for the whole trip from the hobby farm to my house; about 60 miles. My 5.4 would unlock in numerous places along that same route. Used cruise control because it was too easy to start speeding up otherwise. As someone else posted, I found myself approaching 70 mph without realizing it. Quieter and more stable; perhaps because of the extra payload capacity of Max Tow and the LT tires. On a fairly flat 60 miles with a 7 to 10 mph cross-wind, I averaged 11.5 mph. That was at 62 mph and pulling about a 5,000 lb Surveyor. Starting on a 3,000 mile towing trip Saturday. Anything over 10 mpg will be a bonus.

I will post results of the long trip. That will be the true story.

I do not have HD payload; just Max Tow. So my GVW is 7,700; payload 2,000.

I could be wrong...But I thought that the Max Tow package included the Max Payload options too. 2,000 lb payload sounds like it has the max payload option to me.

At least when I custom built my truck there was not a seperate option for Max payload.

Does anyone know for sure ?

Max Tow includes max payload package but the truck configuration has a big effect on towing/payload. 4x4,4x2,supercrew,regular cab etc. Heres a listing I found

There is also a HD payload package that comes with 7-lug wheels, and until '12 was only available on SuperCab models with the 8' bed. For '12, you can get it on SuperCrew models with the 6.5' bed. It gives several hundred more pounds of payload.

The Max Tow does NOT come with this package.

Please remember that your trailer tires are only rated for a max of 65MPH if they are ST tires.

Yes, many are not aware of that. In my case, I have Kumho 857s LR D that are rated for 99 mph. But I wouldn't tow over 65 in any case anyhow.

Well, they are 2 different things. Max Tow does not include HD Payload but it does increase payload by about 350 lbs. HD Payload includes Max Tow and the increase in payload is quite a bit higher than what I have.

Only thing I would recommend is the back-up camera.
I thought I would only use it to hitch up the camper, but now I'd be lost without it.
You can't see ANYTHING behind the truck when you are backing up. The camera really is a great safety device.

Without the NAV system the camera image appears on the left side of the rear-view mirror (which I prefer).

9.3 mpg into the wind first tank. 11.5 with the wind second tank. Integrated brake controller vastly superior to Prodigy. Never exceeded 2,000 rpm all day long. Motors up most grades in sixth. Some a downshift to fifth. So easy that I slept some while my wife took a turn at the wheel. No worries!

I pulled with my 2011 yesterday and today. The power was great. I can def tell that the big a-- TT is back there but she pulls great, but my mpg was 8 there and back. Into a 30 mph head wind. Scale said the trailer was 6700lbs. Trans temp only hit 210 once and that was in traffic.
