Fish tailing and sway issues
We just purchased our Forest River Signature Ultra light travel trailer 8315BSS. We own a FordF350 diesel 2002, 7.3 engine, with a 12000lb tow package. We are having major sway problems if we get above 50mph. We have had an alignment done and even had our steering tightened. This hasn't fixed the problem. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? We want to be able to enjoy our time on the road.

Need a little more info. Are you using a WDH? If so what kind? If not thean there is part of your problem. BTW welcome to the forum. Later RJD

Welcome
Welcome aboard. Check out Propride. Pricey, but well worth the price. Make sure your tires on the tow vehicle and trailer are properly inflated. Load is balanced.
We had the equalizer hitch to start with. But, dang the Propride really makes pulling the trailer sweet.

We do have a WDH (robin industries) and have adjusted and readjusted and doesn't seem to help. Thank you for the welcome.

I have found that this style does not really do what it needs to do. I use 4 point equal-i-zer Hitch 1400# bars. Works great. Later RJD

Thank you all for your replies. The trailer is a little back heavy, as the only large storage compartment is under the king bed in back. I'm thinking our WDH may not be beefy enough. We're investigating equalizer hitches as the other one is a little too pricey.

That's your problem, trailer is back heavy, stiffer WD bars will make it worse. Sounds like you need more weight on the tongue. Hit the scales, I'm sure a readjustment on loading will solve your problem.

Thanks Crusadernoob, what if the only other storage is a very small compartment in the front? 😟 this is a front kitchen unit so the only things in the front are cabinets, dining table and chairs, stove etc. love the layout, but my wife is scared, we've had some scary instances.

With a 1 T dually why would he need a WDH? Just reload the camper and put weight on the tongue. Might help with dual friction sway bars.

Our truck isn't a dully, maybe if it was we wouldn't have this problem.

Shouldn't make any difference, with a 1 T truck I doubt very much if you are anyways close to over loading it without a wdh.

Swaying
I'm not real familiar with the F350 but my F150 has electronic sway control and if I forget to turn it off I will get some sway because my Blue Ox Sway Pro has sway control also. When both the truck and the Sway Pro are trying to control the sway they just make it worse.

My wife also reminded me that we almost jackknifed bringing the trailer home unloaded from the dealership, with our WDH attached. I'm going to call forest river tomorrow and see if we can get a schematic for our unit. We have to get this resolved or I will be camping alone! My wife loves camping and she doesn't want to be afraid.

You can always add fresh water to increase tongue weight. You should be using a WDH with sway control with tongue weights over 500 lbs and trailer weights over 5000 lbs. even with F350.

Dual sway controls but why the wdh? To what benefit? If his hitch has the capacity, he sure isn't in need of transferring weight to the front of the truck or off the rear or even back to the trailer.

No one has asked yet, but is the trailer level or pointing nose up slightly?
