When figuring out what we can do, let's not lose sight of whether or not we should do it... in consideration of others. When we tow, our lives, and the lives of others, are at stake... just sayin'... please mitigate as much risk as possible.

Just because one can't do it doesn't mean someone else can't and be safe doing it.

Was not telling anyone not to do anything... just to think about it... first... Hope no one got the wrong message, as I don't always put things well...

I'm with transam... I have been pulling trailers for a long time... have done so commercially for a fair share of it... Driving is something I feel I am very efficient at. I do my darndest to know what is in front of, behind and on the sides of me at all times which is what needs to be done to prepare for any maneuvering to avoid disaster. I honestly felt that the camper pulled straighter with the jet ski behind it. The camper pulls great alone but improved with the ski behind.
I did speak with a DOT officer and he said that yes it is illegal to tow over 65' in Nebraska. He then sort of shrugged his shoulders and said "are we going to stop you? Probably not, unless it looks unsafe or is swaying"
I'm not much of a fighter, but I asked my attorney for giggles about it, and he said they need to have a reason for sure reason for stopping you first off. If they were to pull someone over for being too long that is just speculation, they can prove that with the naked eye and need to physically measure it. That is why they have radar detectors for speed...
kind of some interesting findings...
as far as safety for others is concerned, I wouldn't ever intentionally put someone in harms way, but maybe some common sense and respect to vehicles while towing by all the rude driving family sedans and sport cars by giving some distance, getting over for merging trucks and not riding in blind spots would much more beneficial than anything...

I also have a license from the federal government that says I can drive a vehicle that weighs 80000 lbs, double or triple, with passengers and hazmat. More if I get a permit.
As a Car Knocker for the Railroad. My job requires me to keep the safety of the public and fellow employee in mind in everything I do.
A person just has to know their limitations.

That's what I did before moving up to this tt. Pulled double behind my Coleman popup. Least then I could kinda see the boat over the top of the camper. looking into some sort of camera to go back there now.
