Ford 2.7eco 4x4

That's your basis, on which is the better truck?
Wether the fan comes on??
Lol

Those are the same idiots that said " oh, I wish the dodge would tell you what gear you are in on the cluster" ...

One click on the manual shift, brings up the gear indication on the cluster.....

I'm guessing Ram would better if they didn't have so many recalls. FCA is spending too much money for warranty work. Could be spending it on improvements.

Wait till you get some recalls. Never said I didn't like my Ram. Just saying it aint no race horse. I have no problem knowing it's a 3rd place truck. It gets the job done. I'm sure not going to brag about it.

For those who like to keep their trucks.. Repair costs should be taken into consideration.

Here's a quick quote.

The dirty max likes head gaskets.
So, let's price it out.

Ram. 10.2 hours to do the head gasket. Just one, as it's an inline.

Chevy... Get this... 37 hours. Plus two head gaskets.
While you are in there, you are going to be doing ARP HEADSTUDS.
About $700 worth of bolts.

Ford. 25 hours. Two gaskets again.

The CUMMINS is a dream to work on.

Remember 2003-2004 Ford Diesel engine issues. Refused to work on warranty with engine issues.
Ford dealers had tons of diesels on there lots and could not sell them.

I thought we were talking engines, the recalls have nothing to do with the Cummins engine.

There should be a weight police at every truck and RV dealership. Certifying every combination.Someone is going to get killed out there towing with these 150,1500 with the wrong combination and overloading it.

Cummins comes in last in towing tests because the test are basically races and the cummins is down on Horsepower compared to the other 2 despite having the torque crown.

Why Ferrari engineers don't like turbos

Quote:
Turbos, which are powered by exhaust energy that is otherwise wasted, increase engine output by forcing extra air into the cylinders, prompting the fuel injectors to provide more fuel for combustion. More combustion, alas, means more heat. To keep the engine (and turbo) from overheating, turbo engines inject excess gas under boost. It seems counterintuitive, but this "rich mixture" cools down combustion and reduces exhaust temperatures. It's also a double-whammy fuel-economy killer, because burning that extra fuel doesn't help the engine make more power, it actually reduces output.
I like the idea Ford has But I dont think 100,000 miles is possible with out added cost.

Have you seen the split turbo that Mercedes is using in F1?

The impeller is on the back, and the compressor is on the front.
The charge doesn't get as hot, because the exhaust isn't right beside it.

Interesting design.

Well either way my 2015 Ram 3500 4x4 long bed Crew Cab dually with the 6.7L turbo diesel with the Aisin tranny with 3.73 axle beats the crap out of my 2001 F350 7.3L diesel 4x4 long bed hands down towing my 18,000 lb. 5er. Hills or not the Ram doesn't slow down for any hill I've been up yet. And the engine exhaust brake is awesome when you let off the gas to stop the big rig. The factory brake controller works flawlessly also. Only have 6000 miles on it so far so time will tell about its dependability, but we love it so far and the big hill we go up doesn't have us at 25mph when we finally get up it. I set the cruise on 65 mph and it stays there.
Good luck with which ever truck you go with and check the tow set closely to make sure you have at least a 20% safety margin with the weigh your going to tow.

I agree that the "wide open" tests are misleading. First of all, who tows wide open? Secondly, it rewards horsepower, not torque.

I've often thought that the trailer towing tests would be better served by limiting RPM to something like 2,500 RPM. Lets see what the results are then. The torquey engines would come to the front.

This type of test would make the Ecoboost engines look even better as compared to the gas V8's. It would be in its torque peak whereas the V8's would be almost 2,000 RPM below their torque peak.

It would also be interesting to see the results for the 1 ton diesels. But maybe at 2,000 RPM. That might bring the Dodge to the front of the pack.

Anyway, not picking on anyone's truck. I just think that a different type of towing test could be very revealing.

That's different than the one I saw.
But, interesting.

Here's the other one. Shaft runs through the whole motor.

Im sure this will be adopted in the near future.
I was reading an old web forum about the towing capy of a turbo charged 4cyl vs non -turbo v6 caravan. The v6 had a higher capacity vs the turbo dispite the turbo had more hp - EGT back then was the problem and long term under load prob destroyed everything.

Whatever ~~ Had a 2015 F150 2.7 that I towed 7000# with. Yes coastal NC AND the NC mountains too. Rarely did it see 6th gear with the TT behind it but stayed in 5th except for the mountains. Never lost speed, just dropped to a lower gear. 22 - 23 MPG solo but only 9.3 - 9.7 towing. She will not tow my new 5er for sure but my 2016 F250 6.7 diesel does a fine job with that.

You do realize you are comparing 2 trucks that are 14 years apart, right????? You'd be just as impressed with a DMax or a new PSD.
