Ford 6.2 Vs GM 6.0?

Hey so I was wondering if anyone has any real world towing experience with both these trucks? I can’t decide on the f-250 or gm 2500? From what I have read the ford seems to have more power? Any input would be awesome

Ford is releasing a 7.0 gas engine next year in the trucks. If that makes a difference to you.

It’s going to be in the raptor. So I’m assuming they are going to replace the 6.2 throughout.

I've also heard that Ford is designing a new modern gas engine to replace the 6.2. The 6.2 is old tech and outdated so they say. But as far as I know the GM motor is too.
I have the 6.2 in my 2017 F250, and I'm happy with it so far. Tried and true. But I'm old school and like low tech.

Ya I would say the gm 6.0 is definitely out dated. But why fix something that’s not broken

I just find it funny how many people call engines like the ecoboost over complicated and too many parts to fail.

But people say at the same time a pushrods v8 is outdated.

Ford 6.2 Vs GM 6.0?

I have a 6.7 for my 5er but I have a 6.2 that my worker drives. Good motor and pulls decent. Empty is a close race for the first few hundred yards. Defiantly toes diffrent than mine but he tows up to 4 tons if not more sometimes.

I traded in a 2012 6.7 diesel for my current 6.2 Gasser. The 6.7 pulls like a muscle car but it left me stranded twice due to exhaust issues. I personally can't afford to be stranded in the middle of nowhere. So I dumped the diesel and went 6.2.
I miss the diesel on grades and when passing. Otherwise it's no difference.
If I were pulling more than 11,000 lbs, especially a 5er, the diesel would be a must. My Forest River bumper pull is about 10,000 fully loaded with our ATVs. So I'm good.

I looked closely at the big three gassers this last year...

The 6.2 from Ford is powerful and feels it, especially with the 4.30 rear end. The recommended need for premium was a turn off. The every aluminum truck made from 2015-2017 being recalled is a real turn off and considering I had to use my states lemon laws with a 2016 Ford truck for the recall issue, I just couldn't do it again. But I liked the Ford SD...

Obviously I bought the GM 6.0 in my signature. Regular gas is a plus. Durability is proven. The horsepower/torque numbers are nothing to brag about on paper but somehow it outperforms the Ram up a big grade with the same load. The Ford will out pull it.

The 6.0 pulls my 9,500lbs (gross) trailer in 5th gear on flat pavement at 2,300ish rpms at 65 well. The transmission is great...in very hot conditions I got caught in according type traffic -stop and go to 40mph for a few miles and the transmission temp never went above 180. The motor temp never moves. Most of the time pulling the trailer on the highway the transmission temp is about 150. I thought this was abnormally low but a guy at work bought the same truck not long after I did and said his is the same.

Good luck with your decision.

My 2017 F250 6.2 uses Regular gas. 87 octaine is listed in the owners manual. Which is Regular. Also, I bought my truck a year ago, and I am not aware of any aluminum body recall.

I have the Chevy 3/4 ton with 6.0 and 4:10 gear. I tow 9000# tt and love the way they tuck pulls. I've driven up 6% grades at 60 mph and never had issues and even passed a few others towing up that grade. Yes the engine will rev pretty high but that is what the engine is designed to do. Gas mileage on level is around 9 to 9.5mpg depending on tow speed which I keep around 62mph. This engine is not out dated as they continue to improve it. Yes it would be nice if Chevy would offer there 6.2 in this truck but then again premium gas is needed.

Diesel fuel is going out of site and the initial cost of a diesel compared to gas I could not justify. Later RJD

Not quite. This is why I got my 2015 2500 6.0. Rock solid engine and trans combination that many fleets also buy. Not uncommon for them to last well beyond 300,000 miles. Truck usually dies before the motor does. The 6.0 in the 2500 with the 6L90 6 spd beat the Ram 6.4 8 spd like a rented mule on the Ike Gaunlet pull test up to Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado pulling 13,500 lb trailer. Don't discount that L96 6.0. Glossy brochures don't tell the story.

I am leary of new engines and such, at least for the first few years they are out on the market. They always seem to have some bugs that need worked out. If FOMOCO is coming out with a new 7.0 gasser, I hope it ends up being something special. I am not brand loyal to anything, so feel no hurt if Ford ends up having the best gasser 3/4 or 1 Ton.

So Ford is rebirthing to old 427 cid. I remember them from the '60s.

I have a 2013 F350 with the 6.2 that I work hard all year. Four years old, 82,000 miles and it never misses a beat. 3.73 rear end.

There's nothing like today's diesels but if you're set on a gas engine, I would highly recommend it.

I also have an F250 with the 6.2 engine, which is anything but old tech. Very clean burning, overhead cams, hemispherical combustion chambers, direct fuel injection, and so on. I like it a lot better than the GM 6.0 as it has more power, and the over all build quality of the ford, in my opinion is superior If you have the 4.30 axle ratio, it is an excellent TV for pretty much any fiver in the 30' range. I used the 6.2 for a season doing just that, then decided to trade the fifth wheel for a Sunseeker, mainly due to failure of the driver (me) to have retained my trailer backing skills! Wish now that I had purchased the trailer backing assist, but I do have a really nice pickup that will probably last me "forever".

I have the 2500 Hd chev 6.0. 2009. I pull a 8500 lb dry weight 5th wheel 3000 miles round trip every year over mountains. Got 100000 plus miles. I have no complaints.

I'm sure the new 427 will not be on the old school FE block, but that engine takes me back! I bought a new Mustang with the "S code" FE block 390 in '67, and later made a swap for the 427 short block. Had to buy new rocker arms, push rods and valve covers, but it was a fantastic engine. Premium gas was $0.349 at the time...

I have a 15 2500 silverado 6.0. Around town gas mileage horrible running e85. Thats my only gripe, she pulls my 8500lb trailer great. Wish she had a little more power on steep grades but in her defence i didnt let her scream enough. Avg mpg towing was around 8mpg threw steep grades.

Gm 6.0

I have a 25’ class c and tow a 2015 jeep. Was very worried before went over 13,000 + pass near Yosemite. After easily keeping up with traffic, and with 2 years and 25,000 miles and NO issues,I love the 6.0 GMC.
