Ford 6.7 diesel chip (tuner) experience?

Has only one out there "installed', "chipped", "tuned" their new 6.7 with an aftermarket tuner? I've had experience with older trucks and chips that gave excellent towing results for improved power and mileage.

My dealer is very receptive to the idea and says he wouldn't void warrantees so long as he can "approve" the tuner I use...ie. not one that is strictly designed to gain crazy amounts of HP.

thats is great, but if the factory wants your tune file or last tune installed and it does not match the factory program they will void all warrantee. they (Ford) are always looking for a reason to void the repair, and the dealer might say it is ok but they get paid from them. H&S would be my choice for the 6.7 they are making some big gains.. BTW it is tuned not chipped like the 7.3.. remember if you are out of town and need attention the other dealer might not feel this way

400 hp and 800 ft/lb of torque isn't enough? I would think the warranty is worth more than any gains with a tuner.

Extra power = extra emissions = plugged up sooner DPF = more regens = worse mpg. The entire DEF, DPT, hoses, plumbing wiring on the new Fords is a serious expense to be playing with. I have pics of the entire back end of a 2013 F350 with no box on it for those that want it. Once you see it, you may think twice about screwing around with it.

An episode on TruckU | on SPEED they have the guys removing the entire 6.7L exhaust system and going with aftermarket non DEF/DPF exhaust and a tuner. So it can be done. However, like the previous F350/250 versions, when you crank up the tuner wick, the tranny and rear end then tend to go out early.

I personally think the stock Ford is way more than enough power. Of course, my last Ford was a 7.3 IDI with a Banks Turbo. I think I would be more than happy with stock performance. I would most be worried about DPF performance.

The H&S guys tried to drive a 6.7 to the breaking point. They did not succeed. It lived at the end of the day.

The 6.7 already makes crazy power. I have had two chipped 7.3's in the past and find the stock scorpion does just as well....

Don't own a Ford but IMO, you have great HP & Torque already, I'd stay stock.

Primary reason I tuned/upgraded parts on my older Chevy was to get my power numbers up to the new truck's output.

My thoughts as well. If I get on it to hard off the start, it feels as though im going to pull the pinbox right off the camper.

I also average 11.5 mpg going over I70 and back to Moab at almost 25,000lbs.

I am not complaining. It is more than enough

If customers modify their vehicle, they may exceed the parameters for which the engine was designed. If you push enough boost to lift the head off of the block and blow a head gasket, why should any manufacturer pay for that. Manufacturers need to protect themselves from customer product abuse.

I agree with everyone about the power...at 14000 lbs + when loaded I hardly feel the 5th behind me. My main goal is to see if I get get better mileage. In fact when I'm not towing anything, I would actually like to de-tune the beast to get even better mileage empty.

I was thinking the same thing, more towing power?

My guess is that changes in driving habits may get as much improvement in fuel economy as a tuner. Maybe all you need block of wood under the go pedal to curb some enthusiasm.

If your wondering what others are doing to their rigs for add-on power go to: Ford Truck Enthusiasts, 1948-2011 Ford F150, Super Duty & SUV owners community and information source. Covers F100, F-150, F250, Bronco, Ranger, Explorer, Expedition, Lighting, Escape and More click on Models on the top bar and then diesel and 6.7.
Helpful info here.

Edit: wow, that turned out to be a long link. Sorry, should work though.

If you were doing it with older less powerful diesels and you say it gave you great towing gains. Well I'm saying that considering the older diesels were not as powerful then aren't you pretty much in the same position with the power and torque of your newer diesel. I wouldn't take the risk of a warranty being voided. And older diesels didn't have all these emission control for the exhaust. I think your asking for problems and expensive ones at that.

I have a 2012 6.7 that I use my Edge Evolution CTS that I had on my previous 08 Ford 6.4. It really helped the 6.4 both in power and mileage. I purchased the Evolution CTS specifically because I knew I would be upgrading trucks and the tuner would work with the 6.7. I use it only in the tow safe setting and I can honestly say that I don't even know that I have tuned it. The truck is sooo stout factory that it appears to do nothing. I called Edge and asked them what the gain was supposed to be in the Tow safe setting and they said it was 40 more hp. I pulled my 39' Cardinal 3425 RT that weighs 14,300lbs over Raton Pass in New Mexico at 50 mph un-tuned. I remembered to install the tuner for the return trip across the pass and it still went over at 50. If I didn't already own it I sure wouldn't spend the $700 as these trucks are beasts.

my truck is tuned to haul ass when I ask it too. I am not a kid but I do like the power it provides, it is a lot cheaper then a corvette (always wanted one) and I can smoke most execpt for the Z06. With over 550hp on tap at the wheels, it is a hoot, but the engine is studded and lots of mods to make if safe and reliable.

The 7 liter LS7 engine is another beast. It will tighten your sphincter for sure!
