Ford ecoboost help needed

Has anyone pulled with a ecoboost in the mountains? What type of rpm were you turning ? And what size and weight is your trailer?

2011 Ford F-150 | Watch Truth About Trucks Videos | Ford.com

Pick the "Power to Spare" video. It is Ford advertising of course but it may be helpful to you.

The Ecoboost is going to beat everything else in the mountains because of the turbo's. Less horsepower loss.

Good luck. IMO it is the best towing 1/2 ton on the market.

I am interested in the responses - I am also considering one because we want to travel through the Rockies next summer and our Dodge Hemi was not happy at all when we were in the Grand Tetons. We test drove an Ecoboost last night and were very impressed.

There ain't no way it's holding 1500 RPM on a 7%. I take that back....It was probably in low gear.

Looks like they are increasing the payload a bit for 2012. There is a rumor that they are doing a complete redesign of the F150 for 2013. Don't know if it is true or not but I think I am going to wait and see. An Ecoboost is in our future though.

I wouldn't bet the farm on one internet post. Maybe your 2004 hemi is just getting a little tired.

Numbers are numbers. It is making a whopping 65 hp and 225 lb/ft at 1500 rpm's. It is going to be in a low gear with 9000# on a 7% grade.

Well my experience with our new Ecoboost was very favorable. 4 adults 2 kids a truck bed full of stuff and a roo 21rs weighing it at 4500lb, over Rogers pass without even breaking sweat did drop into 5 th occasionally but plenty of power left. Not Even close to the other info, but we are much more comfortable towing now compared to using the pathfinder. Only issue is trying to get used to the colour, we went for red. DW loves it, and you can certainly find where you parked as here in Alberta they are all grey or silver

Scott,

We have pulled with the Ecoboost see my previous post. Basically got the max tow package and it towed just fine through the Rockies mountains at altitude. If you have any specific questions let me know, we are only towing a roo 21rs so not huge weight but may be able to help you

Dear Scott _ I have the 2011 F150 Ecoboostwith 6 1/2 ft box - all decked out in Ford Max towing packages. I have been pulling our Rockwood 8288 fifth wheel [dry weight 8104#s] all over Alberta [not too much mountain stuff yet] and it pulls superbly! Got caught in 60 to 70 km. cross-winds and the truck didn't move at all! Gas mileage [Canadian] has varied from about 9.2 to 13.7 m.p.g. I definitely think this truck is a winner, its far easier pulling this unit then my previous unit - 2006 F150 with 25 ft. Arctic Fox. Hope this helps,

More than a bit of EcoBEAST envy there!

Our friend hooked up his EcoBeast to our 9000 lb fifth wheel and I went for a ride with him. Little difference in acceleration compared to our diesel, although truck was a bit more 'bouncy' (our 3/4 ton rides like a tank).
And as stated before, the turbos make all the difference at altitude. I imagine the computers would compensate as well, so there may be no power loss whatsoever.
Needless to say, I was impressed.

Hi Scott --

Looks like you are getting a lot of good info here, Scott. The F150 EB is a fine truck. We just picked up a new TT from Casper Wyoming and towed back to Denver with no problems. the trailer was about 5K, which is well below the rating for the truck.

When picking up our trailer, I talked to a customer that had an old camper that he said was 10K lbs and he was towing with the EB / SCREW 6.5 bed and he loved the setup. He towed exclusively in Wyoming, which is windy and at high altitudes. He was one happy camper.... me too.

Good luck.

No envy here. Just stating a fact that an Eco boost or beast, no matter what you call it is not going to hold 9,000 at 1500 RPM's up a 7% grade unless it's going slow in a low gear.

Pulled my toy hauler from Florida to Colorado, South Dakota and other points west in July. Toy hauler weighed in at just over 8,000 lbs. Most towing at about 2,000 rpm in 5th gear (locked out 6th) while in mountains at about 63 mph. On the really high climbs, and there were many, it would downshift and pull at about 2,500. Never went over 3,000 rpm. Plenty of power and 8,000 mile average of just over 10 mpg. I have a 2011 super crew short bed with 373 rear.

Hope this helps.

If you had read the link to the guy reporting what his EcoBEAST did, you would have seen that he was driving in 4th gear and at a slower speed, which is still very impressive.
Don't let that EcoBEAST envy get the best of you!
