Ford F150 SuperCrew payload capacity

Advice? I'm in the market for a new (or new to me) tow vehicle and probably will buy a Ford F150 SuperCrew 3.5L Ecoboost 4x4. I'm getting the 4 door to carry passengers. To park it in my garage I have to stick with the 5.5' box. That limits the payload capacity to 2060#.

Our current trailer (21DK, below) has a GVWR around 5000#. We plan to upgrade but not to more than around 23' and 7000# (e.g., Rockwood 2304DS). We just don't want anything bigger.

We'll take that on trips including western mountains. I doesn't bother me if the gas engine revs up climbing high passes as long as it doesn't overheat and is operating within design specs.

With that in mind, am I correct in thinking the 2000# payload should be enough for a 750# tongue? Getting a 6.5' bed gets me another 800# but that's a lot of truck for what will be my daily driver in the city most of the time, and I can't park it in the garage.

As far as my payload is concerned it would be, at most, 700# in passengers, a 60# dog and couple hundred pounds in the bed. (Honda 2000 generator, gas can, and some personal gear.) More likely the passengers load will be half that.

Thanks

That would be the XLT with the 23 gal. tank, 7000 lb. GVWR. Mine has the 36 gal. tank with 1830 payload and I tow 7800 loaded. Need a good WDH with sway control.

Look around the lot and check the yellow payload sticker on similar vehicles. I think you will find that most are nowhere near 2,000 lbs. More likely 1,500 to 1,600.

My F-150 has a rated payload around 1800 and our Roo (23IKSS) is pretty tongue heavy, so when I weighed it loaded we were right at the max on the rear axle. Well under the max tow rating, but maxed out on payload, which is pretty common for a 1/2 ton. It tows, handles, and stops nicely - no complaints there. Personally, I plan to go with a 3/4 ton gasser for the next truck just to get the payload up around 3,000 lbs. Trade-off is its not an ideal daily driver, but I only drive about 15 miles a day for work.

I think for what you have now and what you think you might buy, you would be fine with an F-150 EB, but I would make sure it has the max tow package from the factory. The F-150's have a huge range of payload when you start looking at the door stickers.

3 posts and already; the truck he is talking about it more than capable of towing this camper. He does not need a 3/4 ton truck.

No one said he "needed" a 3/4 ton. One person mentioned he is going 3/4 ton next time.

And I mentioned the particular truck the OP was talking about was more than capable of towing that camper. He is talking about the 7000 lb.GVWR Package with the 3.5 EB and 2000lb. payload.

We have a 2304DS that we tow with a 2013 F150 STX Supercab, V8. Carry apron 800lbs plus whatever we pack in the trailer. No problem towing or stopping. 6.5 bed, equalizer hitch, tow package.. Hope this helps. Enjoy..

I pull a 30' Rockwood Windjammer with a 2011 Ford Ecoboost shortbed. So far, I've covered about 13,000 miles, Yellowstone, Black Hills, Denver, Florida, Smoky Mountains, Hudson Valley, Michigan. Slow and steady 60-65 mph. I would have to believe you would be OK with an F150.

If you go with a new truck, note that Ford does NOT include trailer tow mirrors in the trailer packages. They must be ordered separately. Also, due to the computer controlling functioning of the mirrors, you probably CANNOT add them later. There is a long thread on the F-150 Forum about people trying. The only way you can retrofit is to find an identical truck with the mirrors and copy the computer program from the that truck.
BTW, the payload on my truck is 1450 lbs.

Good point, I have the truck the OP is inquiring about. They sell a clip on that covers the entire mirror assembly, they are fitted exclusively for this truck and it hard to tell the difference between stock. Bought mine off Amazon for around 45.00.

Don't worry about high rpm' s with the Ecoboost. You will rarely run over 2,000 even going up hills.

Regarding ability to pull up hills, take a look at this video from Fast Lane Truck - they use a 2013 F-150 to pull 10K lbs up an xway out west from 10-12k feet of elevation 10% grade. Ran at 3900 RPM at 65 MPH.

Regarding Tow Mirrors. I'm saying that the mirrors are not included in the tow packages. They are available, just have to be specified separately. I suspect you could put the tow mirrors on a truck that does not have a tow package...
