The 2017 F150 Ecoboost and Raptor will get a 10 speed trans featuring 3 0/drives with low gear very closely the same as reverse. It should be one sweet trans for pulling, it will have the capabilities of downshifting 6 gears if needed. Will have tow/haul, select shift and manual shift.

It was said "You will rarely run over 2,000 even going up hills" There is no doubt it can pull a hill with a trailer. Regarding tow a package. Why would you order one if you are not going to tow "something'? Hence the mirrors. Not trying to strike a nerve just don't understand some comments.

I agree! I voiced that to my sales lady. When I went looking, Ford had stopped taking new orders, so I was stuck with what was on lots or previously ordered. MOST of the trucks in the area had everything I wanted EXCEPT the mirrors!!! Only one dealer that traded with my dealer had trucks with the mirrors.
With that said, I did look up the legal requirements. The standard mirror IS large enough to be legal for most trailers. It just doesn't extend. So if you just want to pull a bunch of lawn service stuff, you are probably OK.

That and I understand there is a mod to the engine to handle the carbon buildup issue that has plagued direct injection engines from many manufacturers.

If you haven't heard of this, exhaust gasses can backup into the intake when the intake valve first opens. This slowly results in a carbon buildup on the back side of the intake valve. If the injector is in the intake manifold, the entering fuel can clean the back of the valve. My understanding is that the carbon buildup can result in knock, though what I have read seems to indicate that it doesn't happen until over 100K miles. I haven't checked lately to see if Ford has approved a cleaning procedure. I know there are ways to clean the intake valve that have been used successfully on other makes, but the last time I checked Ford hadn't approved any of them.

Upside to DI - better mileage, emissions, performance, etc.... YMMV

Sailor. Old timer here. One of the best ways to clean valves/pistons ect back in the day was steam(water)(look how clean a cylinder is that had a blown head gasket) figure out way to get a very and i say very small amount of moisture into each cylinder at different intervals during driving towing mileage whatever it may work.

I had noticed that as well. Back in the carburetor days I used to just pour water down carb throats with engine held at high rpms. It did the same. I often wondered if you couldn't make a windshield washer jet to spray water into the opening while driving but one would not need to do it that much... never hurt an engine.

OP here. I appreciate the helpful comments. Those with experience with a similar combination are particularly helpful.

My plan is to get the heaviest payload package. I am aware of the payload being the limiting factor. Reference here to a "7000# GVWR Package" helped clarify that line seen on a window sticker (online). I gathered that it was a heavier payload but didn't know if it was the heaviest payload. Comments here suggest that it is.

With respect to tow mirrors, I'm aware they're a separate option. Baffling, but apparently true. That's my sticking point on finding a used vehicle, or even a new 2016 on a lot. I definitely want the power telescoping and folding mirrors because it will enable me to park the car in the garage. I really don't want to hop out of the truck every time I park it.

Being at the end of the model year results in more incentives from Ford but fewer options as to trucks with power mirrors. I hope I don't have to order a new 2017 vehicle to get what I looking for. I far prefer for someone else to pay for that first mile off the lot. But, if I do order new I'll get what I want, and nothing more, and the 10-speed transmission seems like an improvement.

Again, thanks. I'll report back to this thread with the results of my search. I'm not in a hurry so it might not be soon.

Look under payload under specs. This matches door stickers for each combo wb.

That is not correct. A 145" wheelbase XL will have a much higher payload than a 145" wheelbase Lariat. The only true way to get the actual payload, short of weighing the truck, is to check the payload sticker on the individual truck.

For my 2014 lariat eco max tow the specs on the pdf are off by 10# from the sticker. They should be very close.

I have a 13' f150 super crew 4x4 I bought new with the ecoboost.
Sticker on My door gives me a payload of about 1500 pounds as others are saying on here (1470 actual). The newer ones obviously benefit from the lighter aluminum construction and payload should be a tad higher but it all depends on your configuration.
I LOVE the motor in this truck. I have tall gears 3.31 and it effortlessly pulls the new trailer we bought that has a 5100 pound dry weight. Figure loaded up it will be near 6000 pounds (we are lifetime tent campers and really pack light)
So only thing we are adding is bedding and a few dishes, toiletries etc.

I am pulling 9080# weighed and 940# tongue with a 2014 F150 Eco Max tow but with a 3.73 rear end. I am truly amazed how well it tows straight up a hill or on the interstate. The Husky TS WDH is doing a lot because we used a CAT scale to adjust it and a lot of weight is being transferred off of the rear axle. My truck has the 7650# GVWR and 4050# rear axle. It has zero sway.

My brother-in-law pulls a 39' Keystone Sprinter 5er with a Platinum F250 6.2l and we have driven each other rigs several times. His RV front sits a little high and at least right now I prefer towing my rig. Either is relaxing.

If referring to the Max Payload package, I intend to buy a truck with the maximum payload possible, given other constraints:
Must have power folding/telescoping mirrors (available only on Lariat or higher)
Short wheelbase (can't park the 250+" in my garage)
If you're referring to a 250 HD, I'm sticking with the 150 class.

Thanks

Unfortunately, Ford offers power telescoping mirrors only on Lariat or higher trim package. From other comments here, they apparently can't be retro-fitted.

What's in an XL that increases the payload, that a Lariat doesn't have?
