Ford F250 deisel and Sabre 31CKTS

We are current owners of F150 and Flagstaff 26RLS for 2 years and have been happy with the combo, but want to upgrade to Sabre 31CKTS and Ford Superduty. I think I can make the numbers work with the 6.7 turbo diesel. I have noticed a lot of signatures that have this combination, or close to it and I was wondering if everyone is happy with their setup, or has problems. I would appreciate comments, because I am hoping only good things and am looking forward to the upgrade.

The Sabre 31CKTS has Gross wt of 13,092 lbs
ccc of 3900 lbs (who carries near that in cargo??)
dry hitch weight of 1692 lb in brochure

Ford F250 6.7 turbo diesel pulls up to 16300 for fifth wheel, but of course numbers change a little bit when adding diesel and 4x4. I probably would be better off going 2WD. And any comments on 3.31 vs 3.55?

Thanks, in advance.

I have a 2011 F250, CC, diesel, longbed, RWD, and I pull a 2012 V-Cross 275 fiver, GWR 9,950lbs. With the new transmissions of six speed it is less concern with the 3.31 or 3.55, but if you tow with the truck a lot the 3.55 would be better. Good Luck

I'm not a member of the 'Weight Police', but would like to comment that you should consider an F-350 because cargo does add up quick. Say, you want to add a washer\dryer? You don't want to exceed gross weight unintentionally or have to add air bags 'cause your sagging. The 350 has overload springs which help ALOT. The 3.55-1 rear gearing would be helpful towing too. 4wd is waste and un-needed expense unless you can justify the reason to have it. It's your $$ and your choice. Good luck and have fun!

F-250

I just took delivery of my F-350 Diesel so I could tow my soon to arrive 32RCTS. I was just about ready to pull the trigger on a 250 when I saw that the payload dropped to 2650 lbs on a diesel, crew cab short bed. Put a 200 lb hitch in and you and the DW and you might be getting close to payload capacity. Will it work? I imagine it will. I was really concerned about liability. Overload a rig, get in an accident, cause some damage or worst case kill someone and the lawyers will eat you alive. Check the numbers. Payload drops 500 lbs when you option the diesel over gas.

Just say'n

TTforTwo where are you?
The base price for an F350 is less than $1000 over an F250.

We had signed the papers and all but driven off the lot, when we looked at the payload sticker in the door. It was an F250 crew cab short bed diesel 4x4. The salesman said the payload should be about 2900 to 3100, but the truck was never accessible when I asked the payload question. I knew the salesman was over estimating...I did my homework. But the truck also had the offroad package with lots more extras under the hood and some chrome. The sticker said 2127 lbs! We ended up tearing up the papers and walking away from that truck...the sales manager was super about the whole deal. So after spending 11 hours at the car dealership, we had to start all over.

I could make the story longer, but won't. We changed our mind to a Rockwood 8310ss and will be keeping our F150 for a few more years. Love the Sabres, but also will love the 8310ss (and my DH will still have a tv that fits in the garage :-) )

the point is moot now, but I would opt for the 3.55 gears in the future. a good ratio for both towing and empty cruising.

Gears

Exactly what I did. I put the 3.55 in my F-350. I only have 86 miles on it. The electronics can drive you crazy but I am kind of a geek anyway. I did get 4 X 4 as I live in the mountains of Arizona and we get snow and lots of off road stuff. Spray in bed line goes in on the 1st and my Pull Rite gets installed on the 8th. My 32RCTS is due to ship from the factory this Friday. Many months of planning and spending $$ coming together.

Fun, Fun, Fun

Which is a downside to the F250, my 2011 can pull 16,300 lbs fith wheel and 23,500 lbs GCWR, but with the 10,000 lb rating on the truck and real pin weight of about 2,000 lbs and axle weight, you are limited to much less. Having driven over weight cattle trailer for years, I want to to take it easy and not push any limits. Good Luck

for just a little extra $ go for the 350 so you don't have to stress it. in terms of the 4x4 vs 2wd, I have discovered that the front end of the diesel is so heavy that it has trouble backing up a hill on a soft surface like gravel or dirt. I tend to spin and go nowhere unless I put it in 4 wd on dry ground. I wasn't even going to be able to back my 7000 lb Tt into a spot at endless caverns last year without 4wd. it was a back in site that I had to back up hill on gravel to get into. I spun out in 2wd but got it in easily in 4wd.

Many thanks. It was at the last minute that I noticed the payload issue on the F-250. My F-350 has an 11,500 GVWR and a payload capacity of 3970 lbs. Glad I made the move up.
